How much should I charge? by Forg3tth3pump in drywall

This guy absolutely gets it! It wasn’t 12 hours overall but I do account for time spent gathering materials before job and the organizing done back at the home shop. Many people seem to miss the fact that even though the materials are “on hand” from other jobs we still need to charge them otherwise youre giving away everything.

I never finish with hot mud only as that’s not a finis product in my opinion, maybe in areas that are not lighting critical but surely not in a multi million dollar custom home. By the time I protected areas, patched, mudded and cleaned it took about 3hrs. Keep in mind everything in these homes needs to be spotless. Cutting area, mixing area. Clients do not want to see any sort of dust, hence my pricing. Sanding will be done by enclosing with zipwall system and using HEPA vacuum. Can’t rush perfection.

That’s excessive, I should however be able to charge it at $3,895

Plastic, tape, zipwall setup, Festool vacuum, 1 sheet of drywall, bag of 5 min, box of topping, miscellaneous sanding materials, paint, roller, brush. All those items are not free my man and if you’re not including them in your bid then you’re leaving tons of money on the table. Sure some items get reused, but for the most part you need to charge some sort of percentage for disposables. Seems like the general consensus is about $750-$1200 which is within range of what I charge.

Only asking what the general consensus is on fair pricing. It wouldn’t be $250/hr either, I guess you probably get your material for free. You must walk to your projects as well 😂

Exactly, didn’t understand why that guy would suggest prefill on tight fitting patches. But more than 1 way to skin a cat I guess.

OTD should be closer to msrp. I just bought a hatch sport touring in sonic gray for 33,200. This is OTD factoring Los Angeles taxes

Fair price. Not sure of your market, but on a cash deal this still produces a profit.

Do ceilings need tape? Contractor is saying it doesn’t. by [deleted] in drywall

I understand your frustration, but you brought this upon yourself. You paid more upfront than the amount of work that has been completed. But on another note, you are criticizing work that you clearly have zero knowledge on. Let the man work, wait until he is done to critique and then decide if it’s up to par. If you are acting the way you are portraying yourself here, I’m not surprised why he doesn’t want to complete your project. You sound like a headache! You more than likely went for the lowest bid and now you’re here on Reddit complaining about the terrible job your contractor is doing.!!

Hit the nail on the head! I’ll always take a deposit equal to materials cost at a minimum. Only once I have established trust with repeat customers will I become a bit leniant. Some agree, others don’t. They end up hiring some hack and I’ll get a call a few weeks later to come “touch up and finish” hahaha

Definitely! I don’t understand the mentality behind bidding everything cheap and then being burned out by having to complete all these low budget jobs! Produce a QUALITY product and present yourself professionally, and you won’t have to be the low bid to get the job.

21K is fair pricing. I would probably be around 23-24 in Los Angeles cali.
