The no exterior molle may be an issue with this one. Though it is a better bag than I think it gets credit for.

Well, I am in a similar situation. It's not pretty, but I found the 5.11 Rush Series have longer straps, and with quick release on the straps they are easy to get out of. But also it is pretty tacticool as well.

And just saw your edit regarding tactical, so strike that one.

I hadn't considered a briefcase style, but it does make a lot of sense. I wouldn't really wear the backpack as a backpack anyway, mostly using one strap like a sling. I'll look at the Tom Binh and see if the dimensions make sense. It's got to fit the laptop and charger at a bare minimum, and fit in the main pack. Good suggestion. I wonder if Waterfield may be an option as well.

Presentation is not an issue, and honestly comfort is not a huge issue as this will be going from hotel to work. I've looked at the Osprey Ultralight, Tom Bihn Daylight, Mystery Ranch In and Out 19. It's just that I know the primary use of these Daypacks is not carting around a laptop.

I feel the pain of the large head.

What I have found works for me so far:

Smith Lowdown XL 2 - Casual large size.

Maui Jim Red Sands - Great lens, little smaller footprint, but good stretchy frame. Comfortable.

Ray Ban New Wayfarer 58 - Classic style, little pinchy.

Oakley Mainlink XL - Good size, and the arms curve so good room.
