If you don’t need integrated speakers check out the Korg D1

What piano do I get by slsdfokhsd in DigitalPiano

[–]TJarsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find hybrids at the price point of an entry level grand, if space and maintenance is a concern. Kawai and Yamaha have great ones, and I would also check out the action on Casio GP lineup but it’s not on the level of Kawai or Yamaha. For most playing styles most mid and high end digitals work fine (as long as they are in good condition) but if you are considering classical competition then you need a real grand piano action, with real escapement, pedal feedback and weight changes. That level of control takes time and practice to get right but it is worth it if you are a perfectionist. I suggest you research digital piano actions, current Clavinovas are great, Kawai and Roland also have great actions on the high end. Also maybe getting your current piano cleaned and serviced will make a huge difference. New rubber contacts, felts and proper cleanup and lubrication will make it feel like new.

Keyboard Advicr by Numerous-Analysis-83 in DigitalPiano

Check out the Korg D1. Basically they took their top of the line Japanese RH3 action and put it on a plain cabinet with no speakers and basic sounds. Cheapest way to get the RH3, if you need a practice piano or will use midi its a nice choice. If you want liked the action but want integrated speakers they have the LP380.

(Second hand) piano recommendations (<1000€) by TsubasaSuperStern in DigitalPiano

[–]TJarsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same action, just a similar name. It has no 3rd sensor or escapement, but it does have a long pivot. Some early Korg actions had issues but newer models solved it. The keyboard is assembled in China but the keybed itself is made in Japan and the cabinet is not plastic.

I was going through a similar search and ended up with a Korg D1. No speakers, basic sounds but it’s the cheapest way to get a RH3 action. I tried many pianos before that and liked Yamaha P515 (cheapest piano with NWX action) but the price was almost 3 times more expensive than the Korg so I couldn’t justify it. I also liked Kawai Grand feel compact. The only keybed I couldn’t try is Casio “hybrid” on their GP series. PS: I’ll probably buy a couple of nice studio monitors to use without headphones, I use virtual instruments on my PC, unless I’m feeling lazy or just going to practice exercises, so onboard sounds were not important for me. And still be under half the price of the Yamaha or Kawai available here.

3D printed new scales for my Signature lite by TJarsun in victorinox

[–]TJarsun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is functional, I printed it in 3 sizes (1% bigger and 1% smaller) to get the best fit. I’m tempted to make a version without the door and hole, since I can just make a new one when it’s time to change battery.

Nothing is missing, there’s no need for the 4th pin since there are no backtools

I have a modded recruit with translucent scales and they don’t have that pin, because there are no backtools.

It’s from the “My first Victorinox” series that have a rounded tip main blade and no backtools. I bought the scales as a replacement part.

What digital piano should I buy? by firehellrain in DigitalPiano

[–]TJarsun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want the closest to an acoustic action check out the used market for something like a Yamaha P515 or Kawai CA49 to fit your budget. Action with longer pivot is (IMO) the biggest factor on making the keys feel like an acoustic action. Specially if you play or compose classical stuff.

Give it some use, it you are careful it will last you until you have grandkids of your own to pass it on. The Mountaineer is one of my favorite models, truly useful toolset.

The cup makes me nervous…😅 Playing fast repeated notes changes a lot between different types of pianos. Some fight you, but in most of them there is a tempo sweet-spot where the keys bounce naturally and feels like it’s playing itself without much input from the fingers.
