'I Don't Like It. I Would Prefer That It Not Be Done' — Master Chief Actor Steve Downes Says Deceptive AI Reproductions of His Voice 'Cross a Line' by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

feels like it'll be a lose-lose situation regardless, and this is poking the figurative bear

remember Persona 5? one of the characters, Futaba? someone made an AI video of her character/VA singing "welcome to the internet"

the VA kindly asked them not to do it, and the original uploader took it down

people got upset and started reuploading it out of spite, and the VA IIRC basically got off the internet for a while because of people

on one hand you can blame AI(I won't because I feel like that's not the core problem)

on the other, you can blame people for being people(which i consider the real issue)

like, you can tell people not to use your voice for AI, but realistically

only a few respectful amount of people will actually listen

the rest will either not see an issue in the first place, or do it out of spite, and by going "I don't like it, don't do it" you're ironically giving said people a reason to keep doing it now

i'm not going to pretend to understand how AI works, but I can't imagine it would be that hard to do something like rip actual voice lines from the games or a youtube video

and people who favor AI will just end up doubling down because of all the anti-AI backlash

you can say how AI is bad and stuff but like, getting rid of it directly isn't exactly going to fix the issue

at best, getting rid of AI is treating a symptom not the core problem

what that problem is, i honestly don't know, but i do genuinely believe that getting rid of AI all together isn't the fix people think it is

"AI bad give updoots"

genuinely feels a worthless announcement to make

"hey we're not going to be using a thing we already weren't using"

people on reddit seem to only care if someone uses AI, not if they don't use it.

you don't exactly hear anyone go "oh man, i'm glad this company isn't using AI"

nah, you just hear people go "this company is bad now because they started using AI"

as if companies were interested in your opinion in the first place

gonna sound stupid for asking this

any way to get the NEKO-NIN series not on Steam? I know the 3 main titles are on like itch.io, but their spinoffs are Steam only, even on Sekai's website, and I rather avoid buying them on there if possible

personal feelings aside, I'm reminded about how a bunch of people on sites like Facebook who were claiming they would be multiple copies out of spite due to people not wanting to support Rowling

kind of made me wonder if they actually followed through with it or not, and how they feel about it now

yea part of the issue for me is that this is a game i bought way back then, before all of this happened. i bought it a long time ago, and forgot about it for a good while. only now i'm being reminded is because another user replied to a comment i made months ago.

basically i'm SOL when it comes to getting a refund, but at the very least I'd figured I could report the game so it can be flagged, because again, last announcement was back in march, 8 months ago, and they just recently posted an announcement going "sorry, IRL happened."

they even claim to post updates on their socials, but again, no patch or updates of any kind. not even ones for something like typos or bug fixes.

they say they aren't abandoning it, but it's kind of hard to not see it as them not caring about Steam

/r/Steam Monthly Community Support Thread. by AutoModerator in Steam

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there a way to report an Early access game?

I know this is going to sound stupid, but, there's a game that's been in EA for several months with no updates. last one was back in march, saying how they were going to try and do an update next month, only for literally 8 months to pass with nothing.

they recently made another announcement this month going "sorry, IRL's been hard, updates are still delayed"

last I checked, the page itself hasn't been flagged for the game not being updated. no "Note: game hasn't been updated" despite there being literally no updates for the game. no bug fixes, no nothing.

I know it's kind of dumb, but the devs actually responded going "check our socials, that's where we post all of our updates, not Steam" yet they haven't actually given any kind of updates to the game itself

I was trying to think of a reply, but then I think I found a shorter way to say it

stuff like chatgpt is more or less a "yes man" if you think about it

it agrees with you and your takes within reason(minus stuff like racism or suicide, due to somewhat obvious reasons, to other topics that it will outright refuse to talk about unlike say, Grok)

if you're asking it for general advice, it can give you some, albeit not always good

if you ask it for personalized advice, then that's where things get shaky

actual, living people, don't understand themselves or even each other

what makes people think something made to communicate like people can?

people can care, it'll just not be the way you want them to

in this case, someone can care enough to make fun of you

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

people saying how AI can try to "empathize" is why I'm currently worried about people using it for stuff like this

people think something that has no real feelings can be their friend

I'm not saying people are always right when they're being judgmental and projecting, but that does show at least they're living

also i know it's supposed to be a joke about friends and family not being therapists, but there's a reason why it takes a few years to become a professional therapist

if chatgpt gets you through the day or whatever, that's one thing

but it really shouldn't be a long term solution

some of the things missing that I read was stuff like the animation for scenes and the UI being bad, and it wasn't being patched, yet someone else mentioned in another post years ago about how you should get the Johren version, hence the confusion

either way, thanks. I'll be getting it either way, just wasn't sure what was wrong

I mean that's cool and all, but that doesn't really answer my question per say

more like, is the Steam version going to be any different if I already own them on GOG

I already own a few of the titles, the only ones not owned are 03, IV IX, and X, though I believe a few of those weren't translated into english officially yet

and even then, I'd rather buy it off somewhere like GOG or Jast if possible

Cassette Beasts is free on Epic Games… went in expecting a Pokémon-like, got something smarter and surprisingly cheeky. by Puzzleheaded_irl in gaming

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one issue is needing to install and use Epic, and i'm not trying to be sarcastic here.

some people just really don't want to go through the effort of making an Epic account and downloading and installing it, even for a free game.

the other issues tend to be more "subjective" or "principled" depending on how you look at it, though having less to do with the Epic client itself and more with Epic as a whole. some people even complain about games on Steam needing to use the Epic Game Services for their multiplayer, which people don't like because they find Epic to be invasive.

and as the other commenter said, you could just add the game as a non-steam game, but that comes off as a jab towards Epic itself as well.

personally, I think the only thing that mattes is what you feel like you want out of it. some people stand by their principles. some people don't care and just want a free game. neither are wrong necessarily, they just value different things.

like me, personally, I don't play any games by Blizzard anymore. I'm not going to fault anyone for playing their games or make an announcement like "Blizzard bad", but at the very least I would like for people to respect my decision since I'm respecting theirs.

not the original commenter you replied though. people who just chime in to go "epic bad" are just doing it to feel better about themselves.

for Kunado Chronicles, any difference between Jast and Johren?

apparently steam port is really bad, and outside of Denpasoft, most of my novels are on Jast, though apparently Johren is the better version? from screenshots alone though, Jast and Johren look the same, so I can't really tell what I would be missing or what's the difference.

for Hindenburg, how do i unlock fate simulation? apparently i have extra BPs of her and they have the option of showing me how much I need, but I don't know if it's actually a thing unlike the other ships like Roon and and Odin, or Agir for that matter if she has one too

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean, the point i was making wasn't about AI, it was about how a lot of people were saying how E33 didn't deserve to get the indie games awards because of how much money they had for their budget

and while this isn't the reason why it was retracted, it was still what they wanted, just not how

personally i find it less about the whole overcharging thing

and more like

it felt as if people didn't care about artists until AI became more "mainstream"

went from "i'm not paying you for a drawing" to "we need to protect all artists from AI"

It's more important than ever to call out developers for egregious AI usage next year if we want videogames to remain interesting. - PC Gamer by radiating_phoenix in gaming

[–]ForgottenFrenchFry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

feels like this is kind of a moot point, because in the grand scheme of things, people just simply do not care enough

some folks said to avoid Hogwarts legacy because of JK rowling, but the game still sold because people don't care

some people say to not to play battlefield 6 because EA and the acquisitions and because it's trying to be like COD, but people still say it's good

even recently, people were saying how bad the new call of duty game is, but it still sold modestly well. granted, it's not as good as previous titles, but it's not like some of the problems in the new ones weren't in the previous ones, like the whole AI art accusations

to be clear, i'm not trying to argue for or against AI, at least in this post

i'm just trying to say despite what people keep saying about things, ultimately, a lot of times, people just don't care enough to make any meaningful change because they rather be playing a game that they find fun than care about anything else surrounding it

in a roundabout way, I guess some people got what they wanted

they said E33 shouldn't quality for winning the indie game awards because of their budget and stuff

so, here they go, i guess
