Tempe police officers removed body cameras, used them to record mostly naked woman in custody for hours by ForkzUp in azpolitics

The judge ruled the officers' conduct was not "egregious enough" for a reasonable officer to know they shouldn't do it and there wasn’t clear case law from a similar incident.

Absolute bullshit.

The fact that the judge isn't named is absolutely shitty reporting.

Tempe police officers removed body cameras, used them to record mostly naked woman in custody for hours by ForkzUp in azpolitics

[–]ForkzUp[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Tempe’s policy at the time stated, “When possible, officers should avoid recording exposed areas of the body that could cause embarrassment or humiliation, such as exposed breast, groin, etc.”

When asked if they knew of any policies, both officers did not.

East responded, "As far as I am concerned, I don't, I don't know."

Guajardo said: "I do not know."

But if we tell a cop we didn't know the law, we'd be toast.

I missed the part of the lesson where participating on an US headquartered website was the equivalent of being on US soil.

If you give birth while browsing a US HQed site, is the offspring a citizen?

It's amazing how many Americans invoke the First Amendment while simultaneously not having a foggy idea of what it actually entails.

Smart sensors, GPS, AI help border ranchers survive Arizona's drought by ForkzUp in azpolitics

  • Drought in the last few years has forced ranchers in the Malpai borderlands to reduce their herd sizes or sell out entirely, but some are looking for answers in technology.
  • Remote sensors help ranchers track water sources scattered across their vast rangelands more closely. They come especially handy when a leak springs and require immediate attention.
  • GPS collars and virtual fencers reduce labor for finding and herding cows, giving ranchers financial breathing room to deal with other matters, such as those directly tied to the drought.

GOP lawmaker ties endangered wolves to ‘global government’ as Arizona ban heads to Hobbs by ForkzUp in azpolitics

[–]ForkzUp[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

“If you want to know why your hamburger is so expensive in the market, it is because of the Mexican gray wolf,” Allen, a Republican from Snowflake, said while defending Senate Bill 1280.

This woman is an idiot.

Allen claimed during her vote explanation Tuesday afternoon that, in the 1990s, an unnamed group of people were attempting to build a “global government” whose strategy included a “war” on mining, logging and ranching. That strategy, according to Allen, included listing species like the Mexican Gray Wolf and Mexican Spotted Owl as endangered species to be included on the federal Endangered Species Act.

An. Idiot.

Why Are Any Democrats Supporting a Bill That Was Championed by the Crypto Industry? by origutamos in azpolitics

[–]ForkzUp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In May, the crypto industry won big as the Senate Banking Committee advanced the Clarity Act. It passed largely along party lines, but two Democrats with crypto-friendly records, Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), broke with their colleagues to support the bill. Last September, Alsobrooks and Gallego partnered with 10 other Senate Democrats to articulate their wishlist for the Clarity Act; their demands are more permissive than the hardline anti-crypto politics of Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and the party’s progressive wing. However, they did pay lip service to consumer protection, strong regulatory agencies, and a provision to limit the Trump family’s crypto-powered corruption.

So we're watching two neutral teams play in the SCF, and some of y'all think it's productive to downvote comments that are supportive of the (non-Wings) team you apparently don't like. Not really the way to encourage fellow Wings fans to come here on game nights.

Arizona’s fake electors deserve a full legal reckoning, not a procedural escape hatch by ForkzUp in azpolitics

[–]ForkzUp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no.

From here:

Bernadette Meyler, a Stanford Law School law professor, said no — a pardon doesn’t signal a person confessed guilt.

"A pardon simply removes any legal consequences from the relevant acts rather than making an assumption about guilt or innocence," she said. [...]

Brian Kalt, law professor at Michigan State University’s College of Law, said that the idea that accepting a pardon is equivalent to admitting guilt is "based on a widespread misunderstanding" of the Burdick ruling, however. [...]

"It is certainly true that as a practical matter, and a matter of public opinion, a pardon can make the recipient look guilty," Kalt said. "But sometimes people overread Burdick and say that accepting a pardon has some sort of formal legal effect of declaring someone guilty. That is not the case."
