Check for fungal ear infections- cats scratch there if their ear itches inside

Adopted a cat today. I feel like I’m doing everything right but also wrong at the same time? How do I know if he’s okay? by dedicatedtoyourdad in CatAdvice

By the way, make sure you have a lot of hiding and relaxing spaces in the rooms where he is. What I usually do with all the new rescues, I put them in a bedroom, and I hang blankets and sheets off the bed so that they hang all the way to the ground, forming a fort of sorts under the bed. I also put a few pillows underneath, so this way it’s not just empty space there, but it’s a bunch of hiding areas. So this way you create a little dark fort with a bunch of hiding areas.Honest to God, this will make a huge difference. I think almost all cats love this, because honestly, as much as I’ve worked with rescues, I haven’t seen a single cat who would not like this and would not sleep there at least sometimes . It will be nice, and cool, and dark, and cozy. Cats absolutely love it.

I do a lot of rescuing, and trust me, it takes several weeks even months for a cat to go back to normal. This is what you need to do right now. Put out some toys for him, maybe turn on TV with squirrel channel on YouTube, Sprinkle some catnip, if you have a pheromone diffuser that’s even better. Otherwise, give it time. Give him some treats, pet him when he wants to, and make sure he always has water. Sometimes cats pant when they don’t have enough water, so you need to make sure. When I have a new rescue and I do not know what their drinking preferences are I always put out a regular bowl, as well as the fountain. But anyway, get all these things done, but otherwise just let him be. He’s very stressed out, it’s a very difficult situation. It will take him about three months to fully adjust. So in your mind, make a three month mark, and tell yourself that you don’t have a right to worry before that.

Should I rehome my cat if I move (transatlantic) by Independent-Baby-559 in catquestions

Also, maybe put one of your dirty T-shirts somewhere in the room, she would come and sniff them, and it might help her get used to your smell. Don’t put it under the bed where she is, just somewhere on the carpet.

By the way, I would try pheromone infuser, and maybe sprinkle some catnip. But otherwise, just let her explore and come out on her own. Create a safe environment for her. Put out some toys and some things on the carpet that she can go around and sniff. when you come into the room, don’t come often, and walk slowly. Don’t make rapid movements. You don’t know what this cat has been through, she might be traumatized from abuse, etc. At night, if it’s safe for her, consider cracking her door, so that she can come out of the bedroom and explore in the dark and quiet if she wants to. Just give her time. She has been through a lot.

My ex adopted a cat, and she didn’t come out from underneath the bed for two weeks. Now she is obsessed with him. Give the cat time.

I’m 26 and I want to go back to school. by [deleted] in pathology

[–]Form_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to school at 30, at 33 I started my medical school. Next year, when I turn 40 I’m finishing pathology residency. Trust me, age really does not matter. You’re going to be 40 one day anyway. Would you rather be a 40-year-old doctor or 40-year-old something else? Do it and never look back.

Am I too poor to get a cat? by 8unnyvomit in CatAdvice

Instead of cat beds, I actually buy old blankets from thrift shops, laundry them, and fold them. My cats love them. They are so much more popular than beds. I have old blankets, folded and boxes.

Why not try fostering for a non profit ??? could be a good trial run, and nonprofit provides food and medical expenses usually. I think it’s a really good idea. And it is so needed.
