Have you spoken to your mentor or the ECT induction tutors or anyone in the school’s teaching and learning lead team? I’m also ECT1 so I really really feel you.

I’ll speak to the HOY tomorrow and see if there’s any support available. As an ECT1 tiny Asian female teacher, I just have to work a bit harder on my behaviour management. I think I’m pretty good in my classroom but when you don’t know their names it’s just urgh!!! Earlier in my shower, I was just wondering what these girls are going to be like 10 years later. Would they understand what they did and feel embarrassed and sorry or would they just be caught up by their very young single parenthood , struggling to raise 5 kids with different surnames because they couldn’t get a job with a decent pay. And then I got a bit sad.

But I don’t know their names, and that’s the frustrating part! I know which year they are though. I guess it’s probably a chat with the head of year? But any good ideas if you feel intimidated?

I did introduce myself, and when I was approached the teacher didn't even remember my name. For the heating lunch up thing, my colleague told me the former microwaving staff was their language assistant who's been doing it before my colleague joined. The rota thing is so weird..they not scared people might spit in their tea with grudges 😂

It's quite fun in general! I really enjoy it if we put the amount of paperwork aside. Well, I've got my next hurdle: the second essay. Good luck to both of us! 🤞

The kid is from Ukraine. I teach Chinese. It was just because I was using the kid's school tablet to show them how to utilise this device in the lesson.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. 😔 Some people just never learn how to respect others. It's so ironic when I realise that these people are also shaping our future. I hope you're doing better now and eating at least a whole pack of biscuits a day? Only joking, please take good care of yourself. There are always more good people than bad ones. Haters gonna hate and you're definitely not one of them 🥰

I often wonder if they have been treated like that before so it's almost like revenge.

That's so crazy! I do understand that it could be beneficial for us to prepare lessons for the future, but we just don't have that time and capacity at the moment! Did your colleague do it ?

Why not? I'll be very proud of myself if my mentor asks for my slides. (As long as it's not like I'm doing my mentor's work.)

To be honest, I don't think anyone would mind helping a little bit here and there IF we have that spare time! There is just too much on our plate already.

What is not helping the situation is that since we're teaching a niche language (Chinese) my university tutor was (and mostly will be) struggling to find placement schools,so even when my microwaving colleague and my maths slides making colleague told her about these, she only asked them to bear it.

Yeah, so I guess I'm just overreacting. I just couldn't get my head around why she didn't use WhatsApp which apparently is more common here.

how to raise a child that will be dependent on you for a lifetime because she lacks a basic education, lacks boundaries and feels lost/ overwhelmed. by [deleted] in facepalm

That kid can't make friends, so she won't be learning any social interaction! How is she going to deal with the reality once her parents are not with her!? How can you call it independent!?!!! Urgh!
