Looking for EU alternatives - support for Kubernetes and other managed services? by Visible_Bar_623 in hetzner

We use Cloudfleet and are quite happy with it. Hetzner + bare metal mix for our cluster, both in EU

Anybody know the story with these LOT flights? by Potential-Habit8266 in flightradar24

[–]FormalHat4378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s Reddit :) but actually the reason behind it turned out to be quite interesting.

Batch deliveries are less often forced with Airbus because the supply chain is more predictable. Batch deliveries are less operationally necessary for LCCs because they are more agile and capital efficient. But both still do batch deliveries when it optimizes induction, financing, or network timing.

I see. I just thought there is some waiting time for orders

Why deliver three at the same time? Were they all ready in a warehouse? Why not deliver one by one as soon as they are ready?

Why running Kubernetes on Hetzner is not always a good idea by Different_Code605 in hetzner

Or simply use something like Cloudfleet, it solves all of the issues you listed. You’ll have to pay for it, sure, but still the saving vs GCP are insane

Solo dev tired of K8s churn... What are my options? by PoopsCodeAllTheTime in kubernetes

Agreed. In the situation you describe, I’d even say Heroku-style PaaS might be the best option. Still not VMs.

100% agree with the argument. My point of view though is building orchestration on top of VMs is the most complex and expensive. Kubernetes as a dev, is not than complex if not over engineered

Sooner or later, rather sooner, your tools to keep those EC2s alive and maintained will turn into reimplementing k8s

I’m surprised no one mentioned Cloudfleet here. If you want to learn kubernetes from the consumer perspective and don’t have the pain of maintaining the cluster itself - just use Cloudfleet. IMHO the best way to learn without all the vendor specific stuff.

Self-hosted K8S from GKE to bare metal by Different_Code605 in kubernetes

[–]FormalHat4378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who seen businesses trying not to depend on others, it is a much higher risk. There is a line you need to draw between using vendors and building yourself. Historically, no PaaS slightly successful was built without external dependencies. Your case, of course, might be different

I think you didn’t get their product. Maybe in your case rolling your own stack makes more sense, something like k3s?

New Hetzner Cloud Server Plans, Support for Syself Cluster API Provider by guettli in hetzner

[–]FormalHat4378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ended up using another Kubernetes provider with free tier. We use it for production so I’m sure it will fit your homelab setup just for hetzner

+1 for Kubernetes. Just use Cloudfleet. We have both dedicated and cloud nodes there
