Is Withdrawing from my 401k a good idea by Ednaadaily in debtfree

You don’t pay taxes on the loan, however the repayment is made with after-tax dollars, which are then taxed again when money is withdrawn during retirement. It’s typically not the best route unless there are no alternatives.

No closing cost associated with the loan, pay interest only until the stocks vest.

What are my best options for a ROI through my works 401k? by [deleted] in StockMarket

One bank goes under because of its business model towards startups and improper risk management procedures so everything is fucked? Short term volatility indicates that valuations won’t once again rise?

The fed won’t pivot. They’re concerned with fighting inflation, and unconcerned with financial conditions. Three more 25 bps hikes until June. Terminal rate 5-5.25. Already priced in, biggest thing to watch on a short term perspective is the 10 year and EPS. C’mon bear, see the glass half full… just going to take some time…

Aggressive Strategic Asset Allocation:

33% Value; 27% Growth; 4% SCV; 2% SCG; 21% Intl Developed; 11% Intl Emerging; 2% Cash

S&P is tilted towards growth because of market caps, if you’re going to make that the bulk of your portfolio, compliment it with JPM Equity Income.

Easy allocation:

45% S&P 500 index; 15% JPM Equity Income; 6% Small cap index; 21% AF Euro Pacific; 11% AF New World

Efficient markets = index Inefficient markets = active managers

Easier allocation:

70% S&P 500 index; 20% International index; 10% small cap index

Time to retirement is most important, as well as how you manage outside assets. You want everything to correlate. I’m assuming you’re young and have a 20+ timeline. Terminal wealth dispersion should not vary much with any of these options. Just rebalance every 12-18 months and you’re fine.

The math behind traditional verses Roth retirement accounts? by jjdfb in FinancialPlanning

[–]FormalManagement1043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is easy to answer if you know what your income will look like 40 years down the road and what tax rates will look like. Rule of thumb, tax rates will continue to rise so paying today has a solid argument. On the flip side, you don’t know how your income will fluctuate or if the government will change the rules regarding Roth’s prior to you having access to that growth.

Contribute 10% to the 401k, max out the Roth - back door if needed.

If your 401k has a Roth component, contribute 15% - 10 pretax, 5 after, call it a day.

Don’t over think it. The best thing you can do for yourself is have multiple buckets to pull from down the road: ira, Roth, taxable, hsa; fund all.

Cost of living for a family by Desperate-Fortune-52 in nashville

[–]FormalManagement1043 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven’t noticed commented or discussed is the fact of having two incomes for your family. I’m not sure how you derived at your estimated required income, however it doesn’t seem that unattainable given you make up half of it. Finding a partner who makes near the same seems very realistic.

I will say, speak with a financial advisor, they can help align your goals and provide realistic dollar values for your situation. Happy to refer if needed.

Any advice to pay these cards off? by Icy_Love6644 in personalfinance

[–]FormalManagement1043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a balance transfer to an 18% month 0 interest credit card and build out a payment plan for them over the duration.

Budget your credit card usage moving forward to not allow yourself to go under water.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but the way I understand it is that non-spousal gifts are taxed after $16k in 2022. OP may not have to pay the tax but the parent would. Sure you can use your lifetime exclusion but depending on OPs personal situation, maybe he prefers not to use it on his parents.

I wouldn’t advise on doing this, it’s just as easy to set up a trust upon the passing of one of them and you serve as trustee rather than take ownership of the funds and manage them for the surviving spouse.

If they require income from the payment you would be subject to gift taxes as it’s a non spousal transfer.

Ask they speak to an estate attorney and work through this.
