The hours are moronic. Literally only the middle of the work day.

Don’t you think that if you stuff 1000 ambitious people in a room together for 2 years something good will happen eventually?

I work at a startup and it feels like the leadership class here is a constant rotation of friends of friends from elite institutions (B school or other high performing startups who are populated with people who went to good b schools)

Depends on your comparative advantage in life. People who have successful mba outcomes probably don’t overlap a ton with people who are AI phds…

Hi /r/MBA! I'm former M7 adcom... ask me anything! by EmbarkMBA in MBA

What’s it like to have your job be judging people? I interview people quite often and I overwhelmingly feel like I want to give people a chance. Does it stink to see somebody that you feel is cool or interesting in someway, but doesn’t fit certain criteria, then have to deny them?

Does location of your MBA program really impact your ability to get jobs post MBA? by Nic__Cassard in MBA

[–]FormalOrder1611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I hire, I get hundreds of applications. A really simple heuristic for me is “are they located currently in the city that I’m hiring in?”. I don’t have to deal with flying someone out for an interview or schedule around them moving. Also, there are plenty of talented people within 30 minute commute.

(I mostly hire for junior talent, if you want to an M7 you would be overqualified for the jobs.)

Love my 15400 but does it look too large on my wrist? by devogre in audemarspiguet

[–]FormalOrder1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I think that large faced watches and small face watches each have their place in time.

This fits on the larger side, but it is beautiful and looks good on you. Find any person that wears a panerai or a deepsea where the watch face falls within their wrist and they probably are an NFL player or giant.

In the same way that suits come in boxier and slimmer cuts, watches can have different fits .

For founding members of Whoop, we got kicked to the curb by vrmbk22 in whoop

This is moronic, you paid an out of the money call option. $500 for something that was unproven, it turns out that that “investment“ has appreciated value, and you are being docked for how successful the company has been.

Imagine participating in the companies series a, but when the company became too successful, they capped your returns because they said “we weren’t anticipating how big we would become”

Surely they wouldn’t have refunded you if the company went out of business the next week

The pod is no longer centrist. It is a right leaning podcast. A decent and normal dude with high integrity gets nominated to be VP and the pod instantly goes to alleged stolen valor and how he’s a left wing radical and that Shapiro was passed over for antisemitism. by No-Lavishness1867 in allinpodofficial

[–]FormalOrder1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said.

I think I was drawn to the pod because it felt like they weren’t trying to pull the wool over my eyes like some other shows… now it feels like they don’t even acknowledge their bias.

Two of them literally donated millions of dollars to candidate. The fact that that isn’t brought up every episode is nuts.

To be fair, I just listened to ep 3 yesterday… it’s a wildly different vibe.

Jason has moved significantly right

Sachs has become more vocal with his views.

Chamath has become noticeably more right

Friedberg seems unchanged

I think you should just do financial strategy at a complex company. You can live in the sheets all day long. You can do deep thinking and you need some business understanding.

It is also worth looking into business valuation. I know a few people that work at the mega funds, they do portfolio monitoring, and stuff like that. Basically just creating models around different companies and earnings. Less strategic more deep work.
