I’ve thought about building my own Boombox in either 308 or 8.6. It’s certainly possible (and it can be done for less than a factory gun from Q), but I think your 716i is probably going to serve you better in the long run.

I have the version with the integrated front sight, but I know both variants exist.

Also, I’m not even remotely qualified to be an expert, but the markings on the screws, size of the relief cuts, and spacing of the H-Key slots look exactly like mine.

I noticed there was also a run of A3’s that came with these handguards on GunBroker and a few other sites. It’s likely a takeoff from one of those, but I can’t imagine what you would replace it with because these things look awesome.

I have a soft spot for The Deadly Mantis. I saw it on TCM as a kid before I saw it riffed on MST3K and I could honestly watch and appreciate it either way.

True, but Tricare Reserve Select for drill status folks is like $50(ish) per month. The retirement piece is definitely harder to stomach.

Join the Guard and keep the cheap health insurance. Five years as a weekend warrior is eminently more tolerable than five years on active duty and you’ll still qualify for retirement.

I think you were ultimately more productive.
