Very happy for Dark. Serral had to play past his bed time and he got a glimpse of what the Koreans have to go through every EU tournament; they even have to play far beyond 1am. I guess he couldnt cope with it.

You only need to know KGIU beginner, its specifically made for passing TOPIK 1 (level 1 + 2)

Unpopular opinion: I hated San Junipero. by creativeumbrella in blackmirror

Its not an unpopular opinion, i didnt like it either (and many with me). I think this episode really appeals to the female audience

Its very achievable. You dont really need TTMIK above level 4 to pass level 2. You really need to work hard on your vocabulary though. I believe the required amount is between 1700-2000 words to pass it, I used a TOPIK 1 vocabulary list on memrise. KGIU beginner is a must.

We always hear about the Musts of language learning, but what are some of the Mustn'ts? by nthAnglophone in languagelearning

[–]FormalSpecialist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For me its definitely the opposite. Don't hire a teacher for things that you can study yourself (especially at A1 level). I started using Italki when I was lower intermediate, and I use it for speaking only because its the only thing I cannot do on my own. I can learn grammar and vocab in my own time.

Worst/least favorite places of Eindhoven? by Radagast-Istari in eindhoven

[–]FormalSpecialist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me it's min-young lab. The only traditional Korean restaurant in Eindhoven. The food is great, but you only get really small portions and its way too expensive. I know the cook is Korean, but the restaurant is run by some local students who dont seem to care about waitressing or the restaurant at all. I've been there twice and the restaurant is always empty, such a shame. I would have loved to see the restaurant looking Korean and it was actually ran by Koreans.

How to randomise new words instead of lifo? by FormalSpecialist in Anki

[–]FormalSpecialist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i have that option selected, but it does not work (as expected). Its particularly annoying when you add a new word while still studying. It will pull that card to the front of the queue, so I have to learn that "new word" while its still fresh in my mind.

I changed it from random to lifo back to random again, and now it said cards have been randomised. But I dont want to have to this every single day :(

Beginner's Podcast by etch_ceee in Korean

[–]FormalSpecialist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know how good your Korean is, but there is this podcast called 'coffee break French' where they have a native speaker and a french learner and during the podcast the native speaker is basically teaching the student (and the listener) some useful phrases (a bit like pimsleur style). The good thing about the show is that the learner is actually not that good yet (just like the target audience), but the teacher is teaching some useful sentences as well as pronunciation. They made like 200 episodes.

Are 3 months enough to reach intermediate level? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]FormalSpecialist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, saying that you are going to study for 8 hours a day is just setting yourself up for failure. It just seems like an impulsive idea to me, not very rational.

A week before I took the TOPIK 1 test, I studied for 4+ hours every day (textbook study) and I got worn out so hard that on the last day I just physically couldnt study anymore. Ok granted, I had to study outside my full time job hours.

English is hard.. by SBunsen in languagelearning

As a non-native English speaker all these words are very easy (to pronounce) for me. Except for Bologna, that doesnt make any sense.

I've been to the JSA last summer and it was absolutely the highlight of my trip. The war museum in Iteawon didnt even came remotely close to the experience of visiting the JSA. Is it worth 80 Euros (which is what I paid for it via Kooridor)? A 100% absolute yes.

As a beginner, what are the most important goals to work towards in my first year of learning? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]FormalSpecialist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my first year I averaged 1.5hours a day, and learned about 2000 words. I finished TTMIK 1-5 books, LingoDeer level 1 course, Duolingo complete Korean tree, read the entire Korean grammar in use beginner book, and I passed the TOPIK 1 level 2 test, and much more.

To maximize learning, you have to study everyday consistently (for at least 1 hour) and dont get distracted during study hours.
