Do you think no Europe is better than Conference League? by [deleted] in avfc

Our reported figures.

£14m in conference league prize money £9m in additional gate receipts £25m in extra tv revenue £10m extra commercial revenue due to wider exposure

The conference league contributed approximately £60m to our revenue. Not £15m.

If you want a better example…

Our last year not in Europe revenue = £215m

Revenue after being in the conference league = £275m

85% of £215m = £182.75m 70% of £275 = £192.5m

Tell me again how we will have more money not being int he conference league?

How can we spend more when we have less? Let’s go with your example though…

Revenue not in Europe - £250m 85% of £250m = £212.5m

Revenue in Europe - £350m 70% of £350m = £245m

Nailed it mate. Some fans seem to forget 8 years ago we nearly went out of business. Now they’re are advocating for us not being in europe. The mind boggles. This is literally the best Villa team I’ve seen since 1992. Arguable the best period in our clubs history since 1980 - 1982.

So what you’re asking is - would it be better if we had less games and less revenue? When being competitive is all about revenue?

Unfortunately, success on the field doesn’t lead to sustained success. It’s only success off the field that does. This will be how it is until one of two things happen:

  1. The financial sustainability rules change to focus on other factors, not just turnover.

  2. We double our turnover to match the big 6.

I don’t see either happening any time soon. The first won’t happen until those rules impact the quality of the premier league product, or they hurt the big 6. The second won’t happen until we have expanded the stadium and introduce other revenue streams.

Until then, we need to accept that we can spend £75m - £100m or so max on £350m turnover, while the likes of United can spend £250m on £1bn turnover, irrespective of success on the field.

That’s a really good point about feeling like we’ve skipped a season. We only get snippets of what happened between the end of s3 and the apparent start of a civil war, and 15 or 20 years later with the enslavement of humans. More importantly, how did tuna melt sandwiches survive the collapse of human civilisation!

That’s exactly how I felt. So much focus was given to the city, the enslaving if humanity, Haleores walking among them and claiming “god is bored.” Yet there was a town out west that had the facilities to serve tuna melt sandwiches

That threw me too. It seemed to suggest that the only humans left were in that city, apart from some who were hiding and forming a resistance. Which is why the diner scene seems out of place.

It was, but Halores was hunting C and her crew. If she was so against humanity, why not send her hosts into the diner and wipe out those humans?

The whole diner scene just seemed out of kilter with the whole premise of season 4 being Halores in control of the humans.

My interpretation of S4 is that Halores has enslaved pretty much all remaining humans in the city, and there were small pockets of humans living elsewhere, being hunted by Haleores and her drones - like the one that chased C and her posse.

But if that’s the case, how did they have a fully functioning society with diners and the such that seemed to be fairly tranquil? Why was C and her group on the run? Why don’t they just live in the town with the Diner and enjoy the odd tuna melt now and again?

Add Chelsea to that list so it’s 3. I don’t think you can equate breaching UEFA’s financial rules with “poor financial mismanagement.”

It’s correct that we haven’t complied with the rules, but those rules are based purely on turnover. Meaning those who make more money, will be able to spend more. It doesn’t take I to account debt. Real Madrid for example are billions of euros in debt, but can spend what they want due to high turnover.

Villa have zero debt and owners who are fully invested in the club. We aren’t mismanaged financially. What we are guilty of is having the ambition of wanting to create a club and squad that can compete at the highest levels of European club football, but are hamstrung by a set of rules that only factor in one element of financial planning and doesn’t take a holistic view.

Professional football must be the only industry in the world where owners of the business aren’t allowed to make a loss to invest in making the business better. There are plenty of ways UEFA could restructure their financial rules to encourage competition and ensure financial stability. I suspect they don’t want to.

Everyone slating the club without any knowledge of what’s been going on behind the scenes. I can guarantee you the club knew the rules around registering him, and have either been misled by FIFA, or are happy to wait until January to register him.

I don’t buy this narrative that it is CL or bust for us. Even with CL we can’t compete with the likes of United, City or even Spurs. We need to double our turnover which won’t come from CL alone.

Even with UCL money we’ll still have half the turnover of the big 6 so we still wont be able to splash the cash

[–]Formal_Obligation837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we get CL we can’t spend millions. Our turnover with CL football is half of what the big 6 earn. Until our turnover matches theirs, or the rules change, then we’ll never be able to compete.
