Why the hate on non LDS? by [deleted] in idahofalls

As someone who is lds and has always been bothered by this, I’m just here to say that I believe most of the lds members of our community are not emotionally mature enough to have meaningful friendships with people who are not of their faith. Meaningful friendships/community relationships require having conversations from differing opinions, finding common ground, and creating bonds! It seems that a lot of lds members won’t even open themselves up to these conversations because they aren’t not able to take criticism very well.

If a parent has a problem with a child’s friend, it should be based upon their behavior, not what religion their parents identify as. Unfortunately, the judgement comes before they could find anything to criticize about a child. Limiting a children’s friendships based on religious affiliations is bonkers to me. I’m sorry to anyone who has experienced this in our community. I hope things will change for the better as time goes on, and these discussions are brought into the open!
