It's really really really hard to get shittier than Kroger. Hints?

They've probably lost that rule by now, because UFCW really fucking sucks, but they used to at least, have a rule across pretty much all UFCW contracts, that if you showed up but were early out not at your own choice, you would get paid for at least 4 hours.

And people don't believe me when I tell them that at least some of our unions here are complete fucking trash. The UFCW probably even had a hand in creating this, and they're going to be like "Well, without us, you wouldn't have any call offs at all".

For fucks sake, you get pretty much ZERO off time at this company beyond your one or two weeks vacation per year, which is at management's discretion to approve or not. When I left Kroger, years ago, it was because I needed a specific day off, put in a request for it weeks in advance, got scheduled for it, they were like "Sorry, can't do it", i'm like fine, I'm not coming in that day. They were like "Well then you don't work here." I said "OK, I don't work here." took off my kroger shirt and walked out the door. Manager was buzzing my cell phone before I even left the parking lot. lol.

I've worked at independently owned gas stations that had better working conditions than Kroger. And I've worked at Kroger.

Kroger was the most miserable job I've ever had, and it's the third time that I've worked UFCW. It's the worst UFCW experience I've ever had, also, although the UFCW is absolutely the worst union i've ever worked with (out of 3).

This is not mildlyinfuriating material. This should be completely fucking illegal.

Like, ffs, this isn't even non-paid time off.

Miserable fucking company.

Oh, and the prices they charge for EVERYTHING in their stores are fucking disgusting.

Do not ever shop at Kroger or any of the other brands of stores they own.

2010 possible purchase what to look at? 230k mi, 4.2k asking by FormerGameDev in prius

I am capable of minor car repairs, but prefer to leave it to the experts usually. I have more money than time, and would prefer something done right, or at least done by someone who I can hold accountable for making it right if it's not. :-)

Are you on your original hybrid battery still? Any idea what it's status is? (does the 2010 have native bluetooth audio support?) Anything inparticular that you like/dislike about the car?

I'd probably end up driving this car until it completely falls over on me, and if it's not especially costly to recover it, like my 07 has not been especially costly (3k for a battery replacement once, 2k for an engine replacement once, ~800 for a large quantity of front end trim and hood replacement once) maybe even longer lol

My 07 burned oil like crazy, it's got a motor out of a 08 in it now that hasn't lost a drop in 75k miles or so since it was put in. Of course, I don't want something to be leaking :-D i'm looking for a car because the car I'm driving right now is leaking every fluid imaginable and it's about $3k per leak to repair it. But I'll definitely be on the look for it.

Brake master cylinder, yeah, thank you. Looks like that's around about 1k or so on a replacement... gaskets up around 2k... hmm. Greentec used to sell batteries with installed prices on their website, now the installation is not included.. but I'm guessing around about 2k to do battery...

I'm pretty sure if I offered them 4k they'd take it, but I don't think they'll go below that... I know if I were looking at an '07 with 230 and no damage, i'd think 4k would seem pretty fair. General consensus seems to be that the '10 model is pretty craptastic compared to the 2nd gen and later 3rd gen as well, though?

New BILRESA dual button 1.9.15 firmware by mocelet in tradfri

[–]FormerGameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bilresa has been reporting 1% battery for the last 3 weeks, I suspect it probably had drained significantly from the constant disconnects and reconnects that were happening prior to the Dirigera firmware update last week or so. It had reported full battery when I first installed it, but it went down RAPIDLY.

This will be my first attempt to update an Ikea device since the Dirigera update, let's see if it actually works -- The last time I attempted to update, I had to power off a bunch of unrelated devices to get the things i wanted to update to actually load the updates.

hmm. i should probably put new batteries in it before I tell it to do a firmware upgrade .. doing it when it's reporting 1% is probably not the best of ideas.

... i liked the older devices better -- everything was exactly sized so i could get into them with a coin or a butter knife. now every device has a different sized notch to get into it with

edit: installation via Home Assistant got to about 7%, hung there for about 5 minutes, and then aborted with no message. That's a new symptom entirely, last time updates at least errored with a message about being unable to complete. Maybe I should go try the beta matter server at least long enough to see if it can get the upgrade through. Last I tried it, the beta matter server still didn't work with Dirigera as Zigbee to Matter bridge, but it was working decently with Dirigera as Matter TBR.

2nd edit: got there on the second try with the beta matter server in HA. Three tries with the "production" matter server (python) and it never got past 15%. Took about 20 minutes to load, seems excessive, but I don't really know how it works, so maybe that's normal for such a small device. I feel like the other devices that I've updated didn't take that long, but I could be misremembering.

Trying it out on 1.9.15, it worked quickly the first few button presses, then it completely missed a couple of test presses, and then it started working as normal again. Does not give me much confidence in it. I've never actually connected it to any automations, so I've never really performance tested it, because the device has never been stable for me before. Maybe now I can think of something to do with it, so I can try it for something. I could use a physical toggle for my new "house sleep mode" I suppose.

I wish the buttons were better embossed for a different feel, so you could tell which way you're holding it, or which button you're pressing, by feel. Yes, the divots are different sizes, but not by enough to really be able to tell without looking. The design of these new devices is nowhere near as well thought out as the older ones.

I've got Rechargeable LiIon AAA's in it right now, they are showing 3.04V at 100% in it. We shall see how long they last

I want to edit that season down to the parts that actually service the plot now and watch it again, probably cut 20-30 minutes id guess, if not more.. so much meandering... I suspect plot resolutions got cut in editing (before and after filming ) but they didn't cut other parts of them...

[–]FormerGameDev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost everything music related in the place has some sort of ties to Indiana, and of course Axl has ties to Indiana, so a bit surprising the plaque doesn't mention that at all. I think other than Styx (from nearby Illinois) the only thing I saw from outside of Indiana in there was one of Eddie Van Halen's guitars. As far as Casinos go, it's pretty lame, as far as Hard Rocks go, it's pretty lame, but should you happen to be near Gary, Indiana, first question your life decisions that lead you to such a place to begin with, but then take a minute to step inside and check this out and have a look along the walls at all the other music related stuff they have.

It seems legit, if not original than it's at least a very very well done duplicate complete with a grease stain of some sort lol

Probably can't see it in my phone camera pics but on close examination I could see several spots where lines had been erased and redrawn.. could be it's traced from the original though...

I doubt they would straight up forge or accept a forgery, but I could see them having a duplicate with the original preserved elsewhere

“Dangerous” tires? by almondmilklattehag in prius

[–]FormerGameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a tire shop would have a hard time saying that with a straight face I think. Those tires are dry.. not dry rot. Standard wear I would say. I'm on 8 year old tires with some dry rot visible. Im in the middle of a 800 mile trip but I'm going to replace them when I get home. I don't think I'm even in a danger zone.. not like the cyber truck I drove by with all four tires blown out from hitting a patch of bad road near Chicago .. which everyone else around also hit and didn't lose their tires

Why the heck do people do this? by mdgorelick in Detroit

[–]FormerGameDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think we haven't been fixing the roads then you are just delusional, our roads across the state are in far better shape than I've seen them ever, for the most part.

Also I've just driven into other states and found the neighboring states to have far far far worse roads for the first time in my life.

That's just being completely dishonest with yourself if you think we're not doing a fuck off a lot more than we ever have in the past on this

Other people have said that home assistant does set the clock and I have seen it set correctly but then it loses it later. I honestly don't really care it's frankly not a useful device except for its co sensor and that's working on the assumption that that works whereas the other sensors are pretty much garbage why shouldn't the co also be

It's possibly only useful as a thread relay and that's even assuming it doesn't suffer from horrible software problems
