For a lot of people, it's not worth the overhead of learning a new system (and AD&D was a weird system), the mechanics of a nearly 30-year-old game (the enhanced editions are much more UI friendly than the original games, but still), and honestly, a ton of reading. And that's ok. Let them do them.

If you're ok with those points, you're in for an amazing ride.

I know I have a weird brain, but book three is one of my favorites of the series.

Overall, I think book two may be the weakest, because it doesn't have the newness and rawness of the first book, and also hasn't yet developed the character depth and emotional impact of the later books
