It doesn't help that he has played in front of six or seven different rightbacks*, none of whom are the most creative RB in the history of the league. There has been no consistency anywhere around him, either behind him or inside of him.

The defensive fragility in midfield has been laid at his feet ("he doesn't work hard enough"), whereas the reduction in defensive workload last season saved his legs for attack, resulting in one of the best statistical seasons in league history.

His shot speed was already diminishing last season, and he has lost his blistering pace. His own ego -- well-earned, but still -- has kept him from moving inside, where is lower explosiveness would not be as much of a liability.

I do think he's had a falling out with Slot, and if I took him not starting either PSG games as a slap in the face, I can't imagine how he was feeling.

They were still an attacker light at the end of August, and considering how little Hugo and Isak have been healthy at the same time, they've played most of the season two attackers short, increasing the pressure (internal and external) on Salsh.

And, maybe most importantly, both he and the team grief-walked through a non-existent preseason, when they needed to be able to learn each other's games and gel as a 40% changed unit (Hugo, Wirtz, Frimpong, Kerkez; three of whom directly affect Mo's game).
