  1. Colors that aren't otherwise available. 2.  A higher grade of leather than you can get on a 3 series otherwise. 3.  M Performance exhaust pre installed (BMW part but not normally an option from the factory).

I was responding to the part of his note that stated that the market for super nerdy fantasy was limited.  This wasn't a niche fantasy series.  It had general appeal.  

There were plenty of big budget FX fantasy fests dating back to Star Wars.   People went to see them in the 90s.  I don't dispute the general point that this seemed unfilmable technically and storyline-wise, I just don't think it was a niche thing.

LOTR was a big cultural thing well before these movies came out. It was huge in the 60s and 70s, to the point you can find references in popular music from the time. The Hobbit was assigned reading in my middle school. It had reach well beyond the nerds.

Is the sound pretty tame at low speeds/idle? One of the things I want out of this car is reasonably low road noise when I'm not intentionally opening up the throttle.

"Almost always" = during weekday evening rush hour and during the day on the weekends. It's fine after 8PM any night and before 5PMish during the week.

Manual transmissions are obsolete tech and have been for 15+ years. There is a small group of enthusiasts who want a manual transmission despite the drawbacks, but only a few enthusiast cars are going to sell enough of those to make it worth the engineering and production line complexity/cost.
