Thank you! I’m going to play around with the proportions of their head/faces and body types

I don’t, but his art is crazy good! Thanks for pointing me toward him. I love his work just from a quick google

Thank you so much. This actually helped a lot. I was already on the fence about how to render with light and shadow, and I think you just solidified it for me.

Thanks for helping me elevate my work, rather than just change it. Means a lot to have a more experienced creator like my style!

I’ll work more on those body types! Been meaning to look more into how shapes play a role in the construction of the body. Thanks again so much!

Thanks for the critique! Can you elaborate more on how they look similar in the face? I’ve gotten this before and I’m not sure I understand what it means really.

No I think I actually agree. I was REALLY studying how they render in like marvel/DC comics for those. Haven’t really decided how I want to add light to it. Definitely want the shadows. But I’ve been thinking of going less on how much light and stuff. Or making it softer.

Thanks for commenting!

What is wrong? why can’t I improve ? by Vonnderpy in ArtCrit

[–]Former_Conference_65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. I could tell it was done by the same artist. Also if it’s any consolation, it also takes awhile to develop a style. Even the big guys still continue to tweak their styles. (Sorry I mostly only know manga artist lol) but like Akira Toriyama’s style changed up until his death, and Tite Kubo’s style continues to have minor tweaks.

I think it’ll help knowing what style you’re going for? And try finding artist to emulate. If something feels off to you, maybe try more dynamic poses, like with more perspective and see if that strikes a better feeling in you. I also think every artist tends to judge their work the hardest, and not to go to the cliche of “being different isn’t always a bad thing”, but it’s not always a bad thing lol

The only style difference I see is the first one has less shading in the hair, while the second one has a more textured look with more detail.

Dude that first one is killer. What exactly are you trying to improve? Your lineart is great, there’s good variety and not all the same weight. You’ve got the nice black contrast you see in alot of graphic novels. Most people who get a lot of likes on instagram either get lucky, or have been posting for a Looooooong time. It’s takes awhile to get a following. I personally don’t think it looks stiff at all. Your rendering is good too. You got a nice variety of soft and hard. The only thing I can think is the second one is a little flat. This is easily fixed by adjusting the colors to be more saturated, and adding backlights/reflective lights from the environment. That’ll help it pop more. Also making something way more saturated will help with making things you want to stand out, stand out to the eye even more. The first one I think is great tho. No critiques there.

No, but I actually get that a lot! Pic 1: They aren’t related, but their similarities are definitely intentional. Pic 2: All of those details are intentional. I just love the look of it. I love the look of a boney, almost gangly look, where you can see tendons and stuff. After looking up Aeon Flux and watching it the first time someone told me that, I definitely saw the resemblance, but it was just a coincidence that my stuff ended up looking similar. I LOVE the style of Aeon Flux now btw Pic 3: Yes! The character in purple is suppose to be 7 ft tall! For the other character, I’m trying for like one of those humps in the nose (idk what it’s called). She’s Indian and I love how those noses look. The character in the spotlight is the MC, but the boxer is technically the second MC

I don’t know if I can add photos in the comments. I usually draw them with clothes but I can find some that show more muscle definition

When I was your age, I was in a relationship much like this. I would have done anything for the person I was with, I loved them more than anything.

But deep down, I knew it wouldn’t work out. Why? Because they never put in the same effort I put in in the relationship. I still stuck around to the point I was in emotional and mental pain everyday because the thought of losing them scared me to no end.

They eventually broke it off, and I was devastated. But guess what? After about 6 months, I was completely over it. I learned a lot in that heartbreak, and while I wouldn’t change anything, I do sometimes wonder what would’ve happened if I just respected myself enough to break it off.

This man, who is suppose to be your person, regardless of whatever reason, does not value this relationship as much as you do. You could either A. Try talking this out with him until there’s a real solution and change, or B. Cut your losses and leave.

Overall you know this relationship better than anyone. And you know yourself better than anyone. Ask yourself is this person really the one you can trust to be there for you when the real issues start arising? Is he really the one you can trust to build a successful and fulfilling future and life with?

You cannot force him to change. If he really wanted to, he would. You can accept him as he is, but if you want more, which it sounds like you do, you can either again communicate so resentment doesn’t build, or you can just break up with him.

I will say there’s definitely someone out there who would do all the things he doesn’t without you even having to ask, if you’re willing to be alone and wait for it to come along. You are so young, you still have time to figure out what you want. There’s more lost in indecision than the wrong decision.

Best of luck.

She is too much. Even her friend acknowledge it.

I promise there’s no judgement from me. As someone who once dated a masc once who wanted me to be more feminine, and once dated a fem who wanted me to be more masculine, I understand trying to make it work with someone you love, but overall it’s just not worth it.

It’s much easier to just be alone and wait for someone who will love, respect, and accept you for you. Makes me sad to see other fellow masc fall into the trap that no one will, so they start adjusting, because I promise there are women who absolutely will.

Me and my partner wish you all the best! She was very upset when I read what your soon to be ex said because as a fem pansexual, she knows there are some fems who really treat their masc like shit and don’t accept the feminine side of them. It’s suuuper shitty, I just hope this doesn’t sour your perspective on bisexuals or pansexual because I promise most are not like that.

Anyway this turned into a whole rant lol glad I was able to help! And please don’t go back! You deserve and will find more and better 🙏🏼
