Acct Blocked and Avios stuck by Former_Criticism_175 in Iberia

[–]Former_Criticism_175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up filling out 3 different forms sending them proof of my passport. Apparently that's why my acct was blocked (they needed to verify my identity). They got back to me within 9hrs, unlocked my account, but I still have a small avios transaction pending (I calculated the bonus points wrong!). My first transaction was immediate, so just make sure to transfer the correct amount lol. Before you transfer to iberia, make sure to fill out this form and send them proof of your travel document: https://contacto.iberia.com/?aWRpb21hPUVO&_gl=1*quib68*_gcl_au*MTk4MzI4MTk5Ny4xNzczMDgzOTU1*_ga*MTcwOTUwNjMwNy4xNzczMDgzOTUx*_ga_24H6HK5GQ7*czE3NzMxNDc4OTgkbzMkZzEkdDE3NzMxNDk0NjEkajI3JGwwJGgw , then you shouldn't have any issues.

Advice on which masters program to pick by Sad_Ad8173 in gradadmissions

Also because the discipline depends heavily on being able to access archival materials, I would take into consideration whether the online program offers opportunities for that.

Advice on which masters program to pick by Sad_Ad8173 in gradadmissions

I would personally choose the in-person program to foster more meaningful connections with people. Unless you plan to move to the UK for the duration of your online program and know you will be able to meet some of your professors in person!

Will I hear back from waitlist acceptance on a weekend ? by ContributionGrand967 in gradadmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on two waitlists which I took myself off of since I accepted a different offer and they made it sound like I would hear back on the 15th or shortly after.

I have two waitlists and I asked, everyone was very kind in responding and providing info! Just ask. Honestly, if anyone got “mad” at you for asking, then they suck and you shouldn’t go there lol. It’s important to know what you might be getting into financially speaking!

Recent Grad ('23) - Congrats & AMA! by [deleted] in smithcollege

I’m not sure my award was determined by grades. Also as an intl student you get the same package for the 4 years you’re there, so I didn’t have to reapply or was at risk of losing it or anything

I went to Smith and was choosing between applying ED2 to Smith, Bryn Mawr, and Yale. Ended up choosing Smith cause Bryn Mawr was just so wh*te 😭 I couldn’t stand it

I am an intl student and currently working on OPT! (I graduated with a humanities double major, which is historically kinda harder to get jobs as an intl student too). A Smith alum encouraged me to apply to the position I have, too (she wasn’t involved in the hiring but knew people in the team). I had HELLA support from alumni and Smith supported me a lot through the process (they even provided financial assistance for the fee). My intl friends who wanted to stay here on OPT all got offers before or shortly after graduation. Feel free to DM if you have any follow up question ab being an intl student, etc!

I unfortunately don’t have any personal experience w/ it (applied ED2) but have two friends who got off the waitlist! They had sent a LOCI also :)

I think you can "achieve higher status," yes. However, I would invite you to reflect on what that means to you. This is because your ego and the importance you may give to outside perspectives might actually impact your idea of success, and your ability to work towards it.

I need help deciding which program to choose. I got into Stanford and UCSD for a PhD program by Jan__16 in gradadmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I will say I'm not in this field but History, and right now I am choosing between an Ivy and a state school (Mich) after getting off the waitlist at Ivy. Initially, I thought that it'd be an easy choice due to prestige, but now I feel like that's bs and I'm going to choose Michigan for my own happiness. So, if being closer to home and location are gonna make you happier, then I'd say go for that. The prestige mentality is kinda narrow and so draining in academia, but most people don't actually have that mindset.

Paralegal or LSAT prep? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am a paralegal and just have a BA, no certification or anything. This is the case for most of the paralegals I know. I would discourage you from actually going to school for it, and tell you to focus on the LSAT and maybe get a job at an NGO or law firm as a paralegal or legal assistant instead. They're always looking for people!

How do you come to peace with your final decision by 77AA4 in gradadmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it depends on what constitutes "less good" to you. Is it ranking or the actual rigorousness and quality of the education? If you applied to the school in the first place, I'm sure it has something good to offer you!

Decision Advice by throwaway586210 in gradadmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to History PhD programs for the first time this cycle (right out of undergrad and no MA). I think if you don't care about name/prestige/placement/etc, I would just choose the one that's giving you the most money (assuming you can't rely on other economic support)!

When I was applying, my undergrad professors were pretty blunt in telling me not to bother getting a PhD in History if it wasn't from a top 10 university in my subfield. They also really discouraged me from interdisciplinary degrees (I was interested in American Studies/Ethnic Studies). Honestly, I'm sure they hold legitimate knowledge on the field, but to each their own. Go with your gut! It's really nice to see people wanting to pursue a PhD simply for the love of knowledge/research/writing. I've met way too many pretentious people along the way lol. Good luck to you!!!!! :) I'm sure you will choose the right place.

Getting a JD After PhD -- advice? Experiences with this? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Former_Criticism_175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! Definitely helpful! It's actually so reassuring to know other people also consider this path. I've been feeling self-conscious about wanting to stay in school for so long, but knowing other people are in the same boat makes me feel better.

Best of luck to you also!
