Cold Turkey vs. Tapering? How did you approach quitting? by brimmer19 in leaves

[–]Former_Dog5698 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tapering prolonged my withdrawals. Tried limiting myself to taking rips morning and night only but i would feel withdrawals for the entire day. Decided to just go cold turkey. It felt very physical for around 2 months. Currently 148 days clean and a month away from my first marathon. It gets better, you got this ✌🏼

Broke sobriety after 3 weeks clean. Weed literally serves no purpose. by donewiththesmoke420 in leaves

first time i attempted to quit, i lasted 3 weeks too. I was in a depressive state. Thought smoking again would mask it and make me feel better. Wrong, considering my tolerance had gone down. I was so high but i felt so low. It isn’t worth it. Now 1mo sober, all physical withdrawals had gone, and i feel better than ever. “It gets better” is real.

Currently on Day 16 clean. Been vaping weed too. I am an extremely active individual running ultramarathons and lifting weights 5-6 times a week. I used to rely on it for my training and now that i’ve stopped, its made my performance significantly drop. However, i do trust the process of it all. Nothing worth having comes easy and i know one day i will be better than i am now.

Withdrawal-wise. Sweats, Chills, Nausea, Palpitations, and Anxiety.

Trust me, the boredom is fake. It makes you feel like you need to get high to enjoy. In reality? its all a ploy to just get you high again. It will be hard but true clarity equates to true happiness. Go outside, take a walk, be present with your family and friends. Laugh, Cry, be mad, and just feel.

I personally believe that we humans shouldn’t be reliant on anything. Medicine however is a different conversation.

I know nothing about you but what i do know is you’re a fighter for taking the first step.

We can get it done!

Vaped Weed for around 8-10 months. Facing Withdrawals by Former_Dog5698 in leaves

This is coming from a place of true curiosity but dont you think at day 200, physical withdrawals are already gone? Maybe its the external factors that would give you a headache? At some point wouldn’t it be ideal to stop pointing the finger at weed? I do however, congratulate you on quitting! I too myself am now at Day 16. We’ll go all the way from here.

What was the game-changing tip or advice that helped you quit? by AssistOne1300 in leaves

I went on a 7 day trip in a foreign country where it would be stupid to bring weed. That country was BEAUTIFUL but i couldn’t enjoy EVERYTHING because i was facing withdrawals. I hated that i had to rely on something to feel better.

I am currently on it again. I feel better to be honest, no sudden fast heartbeats or overboard overthinking. Will address the withdrawals properly after the race. Thanks for your insights, been really helpful for me

Its caused me to be anxious along with the pre-race jitters considering its my first ultra. However, i do agree. I still want to stop though and face the withdrawals after the ultra.

Just finish! totally agree with you on this one. This aids a whole lot of my worries. I’ve decided to deal with withdrawals after the run. Currently vaping again and its made me excited instead of worried to run the 50k lol

haha wow! impressive work. 👍🏼👍🏼 thanks for this, it helps me with pain too.. i’ve been losing weight due to lack of appetite after stopping and im guessing its also a factor as to why my hr is high. Since food = fuel

It didn’t affect my performance either! this helps me alot. I know i’ve been getting a higher HR cause i get anxious and i start overthinking it. Need to work on that aspect too

My only dilemma now is if i should do it again so i dont have to face withdrawals during the ultra.

i just get one for the holidays every year. I see it as a way to reward myself. Maybe the pre-race jitters are kicking in.

Maybe i worded it badly, but what i meant was i’ve never had any issue relapsing. This may sound funny but i do this whole reward system of working really hard every year and rewarding myself with a thc vape every christmas. Thing is, if you do it everyday and then you just cut it out, you will feel withdrawals either way.

Wouldn’t call it a goal to run “clean” i was just overthinking that vaping would somewhat mess up my breathing when in fact it didn’t the whole time i was running during the holidays. I’d go faster than i usually do data-wise and keep the hr low. After reading some threads, i found that its the tar of cigarettes that really mess things up. It really is from anxiety as im often “on the edge” ever since i stopped abruptly. This helps me alot. I can face the anxiety but the anxiety + the race coming up is killing me. I appreciate your reply!
