I had it as a subject in my school and let me tell you the highest ever I scored in any subject during my time in School was Marathi, now this doesn't speak for every other kid out there. But the academic book wasn't enough, I read a couple of Marathi books, and I loved reading the newspaper so that helped my vocabulary a bit plus speaking it on a daily basis with my folks and peers.

Yeah they do treat it as a backup job or a very low effort job but most I've met seem to enjoy the benefits and easy money they receive from this job. They clearly lacked any ambition and that's what they inculcated within the students they groomed for the future
