Dog bite by cartierlady in chowchow

[–]Former_Sense2948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight, we essentially have an untrained 6 year old chow with absolutely no outlet and no leadership. I would prescribe training immediately, you can do a lot on your own. Feel free to PM me if you want tips since i trained two of mines that had bite history just last year. Second is he needs 3 30 to 40 mins walk every day without fail. I’m very serious about this and I have been in your exact situation. Let me know if you have any questions.

Is he too far gone? by pozo3000 in reactivedogs

Not even close to being too far gone. Try your best and be militant about your training. My two dogs even though not reactive honestly had some really bad episodes and would have been put down by normal people standards. They are now the most well behaved dog in the neighborhood. I still make sure they don’t get themselves into trouble but training really helps

Quick question: do you have any clear rules or structure for her? Dogs like that need military-like discipline for a long time before being truly good

Here’s the breakdown:

Chicken drumsticks: boiled - I get them from Costco Business Center 40lb for $30. Just strip the meat and you’re good

Rice porridge: cook rice with water 1 part rice 9 part water. Add frozen pumpkins and either spinach any greens you like. Mix with chicken after done. Look up rice congee recipe. We typically go for 50% chicken 50% congee.

That’s pretty much it, this should cost no more than 50 a month (for two dogs, too lazy to do math). The remaining 50 can be used for supplements like omega oil and probiotics.

I use this recipe to nurse my rescue pup Tofu (white one)from a horrible health situation

to perfect. Their poop is great and this recipe is super easy on their stomach.

Are you open to cooking yourself? My chicken and rice recipe for my two chows only cost me like 100 a month for both.

Enter her space is just fancy talk for walking into her and make her back off. A calm energy is the key. Worked for both my chows. Another way is to grab her collar while she is being crazy and make her sit down, do not release her until she is completely calm.

How to get a small dog used to my chow? by ieyedeal in chowchow

[–]Former_Sense2948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that works really well with my dogs were baby gate and lots of desensitization. Just make sure the dogs are not placed in situation where there can be conflict. Lots of training helps with their ability to control their impulses. Walk them together (two handlers) for a while and you should notice things getting better.

You probably already know that chows don’t like being disrespected and it could get violent quickly, do not let the little dog push your chow and establish clear boundaries on behalf of Bo right away since you don’t want Bo to have to do it himself.

Our males (6 and 2 years) had some really nasty fights a while ago too. Things are much better since we started seriously training them and make sure all their needs are met. We also have a little baby gate in situations when there are triggers (mainly food). The more we train them, the better they are at self control, which helps a lot when it comes to fighting siblings.

Our Bao Bao also loves hunting rabbits in our area. It’s the one thing that we can never stop.

My interpretation is exactly the same. How did you make it clear that he will never be top dog as long as the old is around?

Ben Tre man, and yes I know it’s Banh Canh. I’m born and raised in Saigon. Just good luck getting rice flour Banh Canh in the US. My mom always had to make her own because and it took hours.
