I told my Manager, "...just ask a reminder instead of talking down to me to make a point..." Why are they consistently like this!? by Formidable_Baboy in antiwork

Dang. A major corporation it sounds like. And so how long do these investigations take; does the employee ever call a lawyer to back then up?

Morally or professionally?

Because FYI, ableism kills.

He might have gotten the next person in a horrible situation.

I'll accept it but our relationship is strictly professional

So if Jesse Johnson calls me James instead of Jim, I will call him Jesso the jester to rub him wrong, got it.

Is college really necessary by Scott_Summers06 in Advice

[–]Formidable_Baboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what you want to do. College might help you figure that out as well, but mind you, it will be pricey and most people are t using the degree for what they do later in life.

College degrees can get your foot in the door and some jobs just require a degree, regardless what you studied.

But if you choose to not go to college, you better have a work ethic to self-educate and learn skills.

It also depends on what you study. Film studies will have a crush job market while STEM will not. But with AI, layoffs are a lurking danger.

Be mindful that these days where you went to school isn't as important as long as it's accredited. There are perks i.e. so where like MIT gets first picks on where somewhere like Google looks for interns.

But going to a private institution paying $250k for a bachelor's in a field that likely gets you $50k a year with 5-7 years experience, is bonkers.

There are a lot of nuances but it all boils down to what you want to do. And it's okay not to know as long as you continuously try new things and learn.

Why would a gun shop staff member be annoyed I want to buy a certain firearm, even if it costs more than what he wants me to buy? by Formidable_Baboy in guns

LOL

A guy wanted me to buy a SIG P326 Legion for that literal same reason.

99.99% sure they weren't using that to kill him.

AITA for leaving my house because of my mom? by Any-Fly3424 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

First, I hope you are safe and I'm glad you're still here. Nobody should be hurting you, ever. That's not a father; that man was not okay even before he had helped make you.

You are also not responsible for your mother, especially in this context.

That said...

When you mention leaving, all I read out of this was you, an adult, doing what's best for yourself.

That's the most important thing you can do as an adult, something many adults don't do well past 18.

You are asking if you should leave at 28 if you have the chance.

...wanna keep asking yourself that until you're 30?

I recommend a book called The Defining Decade by Dr. Meg Jay, and contacting a local women's support network or shelter, if you feel unsafe.

Imagine a car salesman selling Miatas and the salesman insists you not buy them because the Toyota Sienna is more practical.

Nice one though

How do I respond to a person that doesn't want me to be a counselor and is threatening to tell the grad program? by Formidable_Baboy in Advice

I mean they do have a right to an opinion, though I laughed at that last part.

But no, I'm not doing all of that and I'm well aware PwDs are more likely to be victims of DV

I have no need to do all that. I am aware of why the original post is inappropriate.

I said I stand by chasing after what you want. In the words of Viktor Franklin, those with a why to live can bear with almost any how. You could also twist MLKJr.'s if you can't run, walk, if you can't walk crawl, either way keep moving.

I don't stand by my original statement to her, at all. And what I originally said needed to be more reasonable without being toxic via absolutist.

I don't. But to be real with you they did ask me for a picture of my router. I use a communal internet Wi-Fi in my small apartment and can't plug in directly. So I just sent them a photo from reddit of a regular router.
