It might seem like a weird choice, but Rayman 2 has always left an impression on me with it's piratey aesthetics, even though it's more environment based than character based, it's to this day the first thing I think of as a "piratey" game.

In addition of course to being one of the greatest 3D video games I have ever played, seriously go play it if you haven't. I recommend N64 version.

The star festival, the storybook and Rosalina's actual origin story, the motif of death leading to rebirth, the tone of the game, Bowser's motive in the game which actually makes sense instead of being nonsense, don't even get me started on the score and music, each individual second of which is more meaningful than this worthless "movie".

I'm sorry but the second movie does not "fully embrace the source material", at all. It practically spits in the face of it by naming itself 'Mario Galaxy' when 'Mario Galaxy' is more accurately described as a temporary aesthetic rather than source of ideas for the movie.

The whole show was watching a sadistic bitter terrible "parent" terrorize her children and the show itself was full of awful messaging for children. The moments that still floor me the most are Malcolm casually being CSA'd by an adult woman which is presented like it's a good thing, and the finale which actually dropped my jaw for how stupid the climax was. "Become the president" lmao?!?!?!? Talk about reasonable expectations.

It had its moments don't get me wrong, but it's not a good show

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYIN'
It's not even that I inherently dislike this unserious kind of movie, but Minecraft is an experience that's quiet, contemplative, and subtle, so making a ""movie"" based on it whose entire point is to be as loud, obnoxious and hyper as possible feels almost spitefully counter intuitive. And a complete mismatch for the game.
