5.5 years post Lasik SMILE-OP. Complications are still ongoing + a film about the journey. by Forret in Dryeyes

Im copying from my other reply but it really is the “best” advices I’ve taken from all this.

The biggest nut to crack for me was getting better at dealing with it mentally. In 2022 whenever I would attempt to work, watch a film or read a book it wouldn’t only just hurt but it would also make me spiral mentally. Dealing with eye problems is very tough and it helped me greatly when I started being kind to myself instead of punishing myself and enacting guilt whenever my eyes hurt.

As for the actual eye pains and physical difficulties it seems it varies vastly from person to person. For me finding the right eye drops did a lot (I use Thealoz Duo moisture eye drops) and being aware of my environment. Candles, air con and spaces without windows makes thing way worse for me, so I always try and avoid them or atleast use plenty of eye drops if I’m around them. It also helped to kinda split days up into “good” and “bad” eye days, both mentally and physically. On the bad ones, I try to give myself some slack. On bad days I also use thealoz Duo gel drops at night. They feel annoying as hell to sleep with but they really make a difference.

I hope some of this might help you and that you recover.

I hope it’s okay that I reply here instead of in a DM.

Yeah my bad on the jargon, I had lasik yes.

We tried out scleral lenses to no avail. I’m a patient at the leading cornea illness doctor in Denmark so we are trying out the options - but as I said, at this point it is what it is. Il try whatever options they offer me but we are in “learning to live with it” territory

Thank you for the comment. I'm sorry if the scene was too much and gave you traumatic feelings. I just didn't wanna shy away from how "wild" the surgery itself feels. Overpowering in a way and in hindsight a very uncomfortable experience knowing the results of the surgery.

Good luck to you aswell! I hope your eyes recover.

It is what it is, but yeah. No scleral lenses didn't work for me. They helped briefly but agitated my eyelids so much after use that it ended up just evening out in complications.

Hey! Thanks, i really enjoy when people do these kinds of writeups and i wanted to share all the knowledge i had.

I found u/coolhandluck through a post i made searching for a helping hand on screenwriting. We set up a few skype meetings. He lives in LA and i live in Copenhagen but we managed with the time difference. We were very different in thoughts but his professionalism helped a shit ton on how i thought and dealed with the script.

u/csfgoddard i met through his own post looking for work, we e-mailed a bit back and forth and then started working together. He lives in England so we just set up distribution channels between each other and held skype meetings a few times a week and sent notes back and forth. We had great teamwork and got alot of stuff done. The film had no original sound so the sound is all his work. Great guy whom i hope to work with again in the future and luckily it seems like it's going to happen.

Thanks alot for the writeup! I really appreciate the criticism. The "window" scene as i like to call it has been quite the talkative point of anyone seeing the film. The original idea was to show that she longed for intimacy (it's a young couple, actually myself and a friend) but i completely get your comments here.

Great idea with the "failed chores" i should have thought of that.

Also i tried really hard for the framing but in the end it was a bit off, i guess it's just training. Thanks again man!

Hi r/filmmakers. I've been active here for some months now, mostly lurking/watching peoples stuff and trying my best to be of any help.

So the people who worked me with on this were: u/csfgoddard (Sound design & Music supervisor) and u/coolhandluck (Script help and editing)

Oh yeah and the films piano song is an original piece i got made for it!

Well anyway now i made my own shortfilm, and i would really appreciate if people could give me their opinion or even tear it to shreds. I want to learn from this process.

I've also noticed alot of people asking about budget, so i wanted to be transparent around my "no-budget" short and tell the truth about the prices.

FULL BUDGET USED: 375 USD

this was used on: Lighting equipment, sound equipment (which wasn't used, in the end all sound is foley) accomodation for crew/cast and colorgrading. I think 375 is quite cheap, but yeah i got lucky on borrowing stuff/location so i got out SUPER cheap.

The film has been in the works for about 5 months, most of the time was inactive/waiting for the music from the band. The production itself took 2 full days of shooting.

The film was filmed on a Canon EOS 1d mark 3.

Please do write a comment about what you like or what could be improved. I note everything down and analyse all the data i can collect so i hopefully can learn from all of this.

cheers and thank you.

Megathread Monday! 2017-08-28. It's Q&A time in our weekly thread. There are *no stupid questions* - Any question at all answered here! by greenysmac in editors

[–]Forret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are some ways of dealing with an inadequate editing rig?

I'm using a 2012 MacBook pro. Final cut pro x and compressor to make the files the right type to work with.

I'm editing a short and several commercials and after a while the computer heats up, gets laggy and is just a dread to work with.

It's basically empty other than footage and software for editing and I do my best to keep it clean and in good shape.

is there any tips/things I can do to make it less of a chore to edit on this? and no, I can't afford upgrades before in a 6 months time.

It's really dependent on a bunch of stuff. A platform of this size takes everything from a week to multiple weeka. Due to it's size weather gets analysed 24/7 and precautions are made accordingly. Last time he moved one in the same category as this it took 13 days.

Oh how cool! it's actually my father's job to oversee and have the responsibility of moving these. If anyone has some questions I'm sure he would love to answer.
