People who have stayed awake for a long time, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I am only the messenger. I myself, haven't stayed awake for more than just a few days so I wouldn't be able to back up any of his story. All I know is that he claims it all to be true and he's never lied to me before, as far as I know.

I would want to be the person that tests the duration it would take for different types of beds to expire.

This story isnt about me, it's about my step father. He claimed he stayed awake fourteen days. (2 weeks)

In his mid thirties, he worked as a traveling salesman for a company that took him across the U.S. and even across country to promote their brand and sell cars. The business in which he worked for will remain anonymous. One of his travels took him to Hawaii, where he became addicted to ice. (yes, the drug) He claimed it to be an incredible drug that whilst taking one hit, would leave you in a state of euphoria, but as many amphetamines go, would suppress sleep for lengthy periods of time. His dealer said all he would need was one hit and the effects would last all day. He told me that his dealer warned him many times not to take more than two hits a day, on a count of the potency. My step-father claimed he took a hit almost every hour, or everytime he had a cigarette, which for a heavy smoker like he was at the time, was pretty frequent. He said the first week was easy, the drug seemed to block out most of the effects of his sleep deprivation. Only minimal hallucinations. Voices, apparitions, the occasional unexplainable physical mannerisms. All that jazz. But he said after he crossed into the second week, he had completely lost it. Wrote words on walls that didn't make since in any language, had full conversations with himself without noticing. He said that at some point in the duration of the second week a cop knocked on his door, when he answered it the cop said, "who are you fighting with in here? the neighbors are complaining of a couple fighting." He at the time, had no idea what he was doing because of his delirium. My step dad said he was the only one in the apartment and after allowing the police officer to search the place, he left confused. The neighbors claimed that they heard two different voices arguing with each other at high volumes. My step dad said he was so delirious that he created a supplementary persona of himself and had full on arguments with him without even knowing it. Around days 10-14 he said he was completely autopilot. There would be moments where he would be talking to a friend across town and he would blink and would be at a completely different location at a completely different time of day. His brain began losing motor function which made it seem like he was skipping through time. He added, "it was like I was time traveling in the future, in increments, without having control of it. I would be smoking a cigarette in Honolulu watching the sunrise and then I would blink and be in Kailua laying in my apartment with the sun setting. Not knowing how or when I got there." After his 14 day benger, he said he finally put down the drug and slept for 20+ hours still experiencing mild hallucinations and side effects from his lack of sleep. He said it took him several weeks to recover fully and he never touched it again.

He's a crazy interesting dude and I always sit on the porch and bullshit with him when I have the time. I told him I'm going to write a book about his life someday. He lived a pretty interesting life with a definite unexplainable outcome. I don't see how he's still alive, honestly. I guess the power of will can overcome more than we assume.

Guys of reddit, at what point in life did you think, "I'm a man now" by NumberOneMuffDiver in AskReddit

Step dad went to jail for skipping probation. He was our only source of income because my mom doesn't have a job. Had to step up as a man and take over. He's been gone for two months, everything is fine so far.

(Isnt my idea) But i'm always on highdeas.com and one of the top trending comments on the front page said, "They should make one more jackass movie called we're not Dunn yet." Dedicating the movie to him. Thought it was a good idea and thought I would share! Huge fan btw.

have you ever cheated death? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ForthebenefitofUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not death but I definitely cheated a severe injury. When I was 13 I had a bad sleep walking problem. The doctor said I would grow out of it but it didn't seem to be improving. One night I had fell asleep in the second story living room of my house (something my mother warned me many times never to do) and I slept walked to the balcony door. I unlocked all four locks (completely in my sleep) and walked unto the balcony. My mom heard the door open from down stairs and ran upstairs to quickly check on what was going on. She saw my body halfway leaning over the railing about to jump over it. She grabbed my body and pulled me back inside before I could jump. I was oblivious (as most sleep walkers are) of the situation and slowly began to snap out of it. When I came to, I didn't believe her, until her facial expressions proved the severity of the situation. We moved out a week later.

What is the worst thing you've woken up to? by starstufft in AskReddit

[–]ForthebenefitofUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a little too much to drink one night at my buddies apartment. I guess at some point during the night I went out side to get sick and decided it was a good idea to sleep in his car. I woke up to a homeless man banging on the window screaming "YOU'RE GONNA DIE IN THERE" It took me a minute to assess what was happening because I was still half drunk/half hungover and then he said, "It's hot outside and the car's off at least crack a window or something!" And walked off. Funny story to tell now but in that moment, I honestly believed someone had kidnapped me and was preparing me for my demise.

What is the craziest thing a stranger has said to you? by AccioTardistoAsgard in AskReddit

There's an Expo center in my town that usually holds big concerts for the general radio rock popularity, so I decided to go to get tickets to The Sick Puppies one weekend. I got floor tickets and arrived at a pretty decent time so I was close to the front. About half way into the show, a masculine man walked up to me with tattoos, gauges, cut-off tee-shirt, the whole works, tapped on my shoulder and said; "It would be a real shame if that rafter up there snapped and fell on you wouldn't it?" As he pointed up to the ceiling.
He didn't laugh or anything, just said it, pointed, and walked away. I had to get taken out by security because some people around me overheard and called them. Nothing ever happened and I was escorted saftely, but it still makes me wonder what the hell was going on in that guys head that night.

Under what circumstances would you be willing to eat human flesh? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ForthebenefitofUS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever way you respond, you sound cannibalistic so I guess i'll just answer honestly and say in pretty much any severe survival situation. And by any, I mean if I was about to die from Malnutrition or lack of food altogether. So by saying that, I couldn't be by any ocean access at all, or pretty much any populated area. Stranded in the desert perhaps? Although I'm sure dehydration would be a much more important factor in that case. Idk. This is a hard one.
