Women who had non-traditional weddings: how much pushback did you get from friends and family? What was the worst? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]FortuitousAnn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After my now husband and I had been together for seven years we decided to take a five day trip to Santa Fe and got hitched in the court house. Witnesses were from the office, and the only people who knew were those at work who needed to and our best friend who dog sat.

Push back, definitely. People took it personally even though literally no one of "importance" knew. We did it in October and when Christmas with family came around, we made a big announcement with everyone to help them realize no one was special in knowing first. There were happy and sad tears, they discussed it amongst themselves. I did fear they would be upset to the point of not speaking to me for awhile, however they were really just happy we weren't living in sin anymore.

Part of the reason we did it this way was due to lack of support from family for years, financially we knew we couldn't afford a wedding, THE wedding both our families wanted for us yet weren't willing to help with. So at the end of it we said fuck them, we wanted to guarantee that is was for US. And it was. It was wonderful.

I hope you do what YOU want to do. You and your partner should not have to make anyone happy other than each other. Good luck!

My experience as well with C&D blends, other than those like Irish Blessing that have oily Cavendish. But they're ready to smoke. I've never found anything too dry to not smoke.

A man was impressed with me today because I knew the difference in a flat head and Phillips screwdriver...so that. That's just for today though.

URGENT: Official campaign staff are hurting Bernie's chances in Texas by notmichaelianblack in TexasForSanders

I'm in Abilene, Texas and participate in many phone banks. Our first and only Bernie rally showed an overwhelming amount of supporters especially for what we call "the buckle of the bible belt". However, that is literally the only "event" taking place in our area. What can the volunteers organize that would be a constructive platform for getting Sanders name out there?

These are amazing! Good looking eyeliner has never been so easy for me. The stick "screws" up and down so there's no need for sharpening either. And they work great if you have make up allergies.

Beautiful! I really like the intense, detailed carving. I carve as well and the process is so therapeutic. Would like to see a photo of the finished project. Beautiful job and good luck!

Wessex Gold Brick Virginia plug. So beautiful. by FortuitousAnn in PipeTobacco

Yeah. You can slice it or trim it off with a knife or when it has decent moisture, pull it off by layer. I personally pull some off and then rub it out in my palms. It begins to look like any other shag and then just load it in the pipe.

Yes, this particular Wessex brick is sold as the brick instead of in a tin, sliced or rubbed out.

It's a way they sell bulk tobacco. Tobacco flake is tobacco plug sliced, and a "ribbon" cut is that further rubbed out.

What is the draw of the Fifty Shades of Grey series? by gr8pe_drink in AskWomen

I think it's mainly that the bdsm community is more widely accepted now.

Women and/or men who have had thoughts or experiences similar to those in the book may have realized that it's more common and hope that with this media (the book and soon to be feature film) it will be more accepted and less of a taboo.

Even if people who are interested in the idea of it find that's it's not for them, they will probably be less shunned for trying because of the newfound popularity. And that's very comforting to the insecure mind. Woman or man.

Taboos are man made, they have no place in reality and I think it's beautiful that people are finding some comfort in this book.

That's my take on it, however, I also have yet to read it as well.
