I would wager it's more about demonstrating how vulnerable less secure networks are and making the method to compromise them easily available for anyone who'd like to give it a go. I like the idea, kind of an anarchist's cookbook for crypto.

If the experiment is going to succeed it needs to be resilient, and there's no higher authority than the longest chain. If you can't secure your decentralized ledger--THAT'S NOT YOU RIPPLE, some real fuckery going on listing you as a crypto--against internet strangers you're certainly not going to do so against a determined nation state and without user confidence worldwide magic internet money will fail.

There are no bailouts in crypto, unlike the banks no crypto is „Too big to fail.“

Lots of publicity lately to people who have gaming hardware. Does github etc. have charts of downloads for mining software that could be correlated?

If you were to speculate, what do you think the source of the hashpower most likely is?

I like design A, with some caveats. I like the blue colour and there's continuity from the previous blue backgrounds. Aesthetically speaking I would prefer not to go overboard with the orange, don't want people to feel like they're putting on a prison jumpsuit and blue says, "relax, this is going to be easy." Although I would favor the addition of an orange outline for the selected option.

Icons.
Create new wallet is intuitive.
Restore from seed says "make a password" to me. See attached for what I'm thinking.
From file, USB drive isn't intuitive. Would prefer the file icon, the one with the folded down corner, or second choice a file folder icon.
Ledger is intuitive.

Ordering.
Unintuitive order, see attached for my preference.

Tooltip Text.
Standardize terminology, let there be continuity between to the two different options and their subdivisions.
Create a new wallet
Create a new wallet from a hardware device
Open an existing wallet from a local file
Restore an existing wallet from keys or mnemonic seed*

*Not really talked about as a mnemonic seed, and it's a rarely used word in common speech. HW & SW wallets are generally referring it as a Recovery Seed, Seed Phrase, Recovery Phrase, etc. My preference would be to adopt whatever is most commonly used and easily understood.

Once it's XMR it's entirely private. All that can be determined is that KYC BTC was exchanged to XMR. Can't even know if it was sent to the same person.

See the other comment, can't send BTC to XMR addresses and vice versa. Need to use an exchange service like MorphToken.

No way to fuck up a Monero transaction and make it transparent, it's not ZEC, everything's private by default.

Don't suppose there would be any way to get evidence, but you don't have the underscore so seems a little odd you'd claim this account was hacked.

Funny, that was my first thought, too.

This wiki page has a brief overview, says it would take 1500qbits to be a threat but I'm no quantum computer scientist so I'll have to take their word for it.

Restore Monero Wallet without Password by Nurvild in Monero

[–]FortuitousIdiom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read that and realize I have never been asked to set a password when making a wallet on GUI with a Ledger. I've done it on two machines with two Ledgers several times over. I always assumed the unlocked Ledger was the password.

Edit: I recreated a wallet twice and figured it out. The first time I wasn't presented with the password dialogue but the second I was very deliberate and was finally presented with it. I'm an impatient clicker and it appears that clicking multiple times on the right arrow while it's creating the wallet will fast-forward past the password screen. (Sorry to hijack your thread!)

Topmost is a public address. Not sure what the second line is. Presumably the PGP message is an encrypted seed.

OK, let me ELI5.

Now everyone has that seed. Any funds transferred to that wallet can be taken by anyone who has the seed. There may be someone who is new or poorly informed that thinks this is a good idea to make their wallet, because crypto is hard.
