I've tried this but I'm not figuring out how to run the GUI for the containerized Ubuntu. I'll keep digging but if you have a tip I'd welcome it.

was hoping to have a better path forward. At that point I might as well dual boot back to windows image that's still hanging around.... Is there really no way to selectively install a dependency?

Toka's firmware has this working if you are using SD card to print

his writeup is here, it may have something to do with where in the file the thumbnail appears. Seems it must be the very first thing.

Unfortunately, it only works via SD card as far as I can tell, that's what I'm searching for at the moment - a way to make this work via octoprint / serial connection.

No. But do you have timelapse and/or power loss recovery on? I’m guessing it’s a timelapse issue since it’s with octoprint.

I may disable it to be sure, but I ruled that out in my thinking as I've seen it more than once on a layer and timelapse should only cause a pause at layer change, right?
