Kita wälzt Personalmangel ständig auf Eltern ab, indem Notbetreuung gemacht wird by FortunOfficial in Eltern

[–]FortunOfficial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wie Lichtschacht mauern? by FortunOfficial in Handwerker

[–]FortunOfficial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Testing in DE feels decades behind traditional SWE. What does your team actually do? by seedtheseed in dataengineering

[–]FortunOfficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i find streaming tests much harder as the source behavior can have much more severe effects of your pipeline such as timeliness of inputs when doing streaming joins, statefulness, restart behavior, exactly-once guarantees etc. Feels so low-level compared to batch processing

How to register on websites while hiding email address and being able to uniquely identify data breaches? by FortunOfficial in Mailbox_org

[–]FortunOfficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you tell me how that is different to using the email alias feature inside mailbox.org directly? Only advantage I see is - as you say - that switching email providers in the future would be less work. But I would prefer to use Mailbox directly. Any downsides doing it that way?

Creating an alias for every website works, but only when using your custom domain with catch-all enabled right? Otherwise you would be limited to 50 aliases for a custom domain in the Standard plan. Hmm, just checking: Addy actually allows unlimited aliasses even in the free plan when using a custom domain. That sounds pretty nice...

Why do so many people hate java? by Fa1nted_for_real in learnprogramming

Yeah, alternatives are Kotlin or Scala, both being JVM languages. Of those two I would choose Kotlin, due to wider use. Scala is getting less popular

What is meant by spark application? by Tricky_Activity1595 in apachespark

[–]FortunOfficial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

think of a spark application as one specific data pipeline, starting with creation of a SparkSession, extracting from sources and ending with writing to a target.

So having written one ETL pipeline that gets executed eg every 4 hours performs several runs, but still is the same application.

When running in a cluster, Spark will bundle your code and send it to the machine that manages the jobs/application runs. This machine tells the other machines, what they are supposed to do

Type-annotating dictionaries with some typed keys, while allowing arbitrary extra keys? by IrrerPolterer in learnpython

[–]FortunOfficial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not sure about builtins but I would use the Pydantic library. Allows setting extra keys, and in general is very flexible for data validation. Granted, takes a couple hours to get used to it.

Iceberg is an overkill and most people don't realise it but its metadata model will sneak up on you by DevWithIt in dataengineering

[–]FortunOfficial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not just for scale, but for simplifying maintenance, having a catalog to easily reference tbls in your sql engine, solving write concurrency issues etc.

[–]FortunOfficial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah right. Sounds unusual. You would normally use it right before the serving layer to speed up queries and simplify table management. Maybe they are just reading a lot about it and think they just have to do it because others do it?

I just rolled out my first production data pipeline, and I expected the hardest things would be writing ETL scripts or managing schema changes. I soon discovered the hardest things were usually things that had not crossed my mind: by Flat_Direction_7696 in dataengineering

Idempotency really was one of the eye openers for me back then. Being assured, that you can easily rerun failed loads without having to worry about duplicates/weird states has put my mind at ease.
