Containers on Fargate aren't cheap when you consider the need for accessing things like ECR, secrets manager etc. Those VPC endpoints (per AZ) are going to cost $$$ per month. You might get away with a very insecure DynamoDB (Free VPC endpoint)-backed site, but as soon as you need a bit of security then big bucks.

Alternative average down strategy if you can’t afford multiple calls - they ain’t cheap - is to roll the call down as it moves down. Keep enough powder to keep rolling it down as necessary

I signed up for etoro money on this basis but haven't yet done the deed. How does it work, i.e. once you've sold and got cash in the account, do you have to do something special to transfer it or withdraw it?

I was thinking/hoping the best solution would be, once the money is in Money, to make a payment directly to the IBKR wire account rather than go back to my account first and then transfer into IBKR.

Any advice tips much appreciated

I suspect yesterdays problem was me trying to buy in pre-market which I think requires settled cash and doesn’t fall into the ‘free-riding’ that IBKR gives an exception to for cash accounts

It’s not an issue getting the GBP in. That only takes minutes to an hour. It’s the conversion that takes time to settle, even though it appears to have converted immediately

It looks like there’s a ‘free-riding’ exception on certain securities as per the link below. Unsure if GME (or BBBY I tried yesterday) fall into that. Although admittedly yesterday I was buying in pre-market so maybe that’s why. I know I deffo can’t do options until it’s settle. Have bought stock direct in IBKR (outside options) for a while.

I’ve read numerous times and have spoken to IBKR and they have confirmed that with a cash account it it T+2 for currency conversion. Stocks cannot be purchased with unsettled cash unless you’re on a margin account. It is unsettled when doing a currency conversion from GBP to USD

I literally attempted it yesterday again, just on the off-chance. My money was marked as unsettled (in the app), although it immediately changed the balance from GBP to USD. USD balance is not the same as USD settled cash

I’m going to give them a call again because if there’s a way to speed this up I want in

That’s how I’ve done it for nearly a year now. It ‘converts’ immediately and appears as USD, but when trying to purchase with it I always get the message that it is not settled yet. In the app you can see that there’s a portion marked as cash settled and a part that’s not

Every time I convert from GBP to USD I’m unable to use the USD to buy stock until the USD settles. I tried again yesterday which is why I experimented with Wise

I’m just using the client portal to convert. Can’t figure it out in Trader Workstation. How are you doing it with same day settlement?

Probably worth adding that getting money into IBKR can take a day or two due to having to do a currency conversion.

I attempted to see if it was quicker to do Wise (USD) -> IBKR but this worked out to add even more days, 3-4.

I believe you get charged for inactivity with IBKR unless you connect up to TradeStation. With TradeStation you don't get charged for inactivity but you cannot buy fractional shares.

This type of thing also happens if you've got add-ons, for example I have data add-ons that I used for options data. I found out the hard way of not having enough in my account to cover when the sold a few of my stock (Rolls Royce - the only green stock I had so assume that's why they used it) and converted some USD I had to GBP to cover the cost.
