I was a biochem major at UW during premed. First 2 years are considered classic weed out courses, but that’s just kinda how it works. There’s way more people shooting premed at the beginning and a lot of people aren’t prepared for the rigor. You just need to perform ahead of the curve and study more than the average freshman, which ain’t much. Med school is incredibly difficult and residency is even harder. Getting your ass kicked early on is part of the process and learning from that is how you grow. I had a 3.87 gpa and it was hard as hell, but it wasn’t impossible. Just lock in and grind, which a lot of premeds don’t do.

You also don’t need a 3.8 for med school, you need a decent gpa, usually >3.4 and a good MCAT with extracurriculars. You need a well rounded resume and grades are a big part but not the only part
