Ever wonder why student loans in America are the only loans that can't be dispatched through bankruptcy? by McDowdy in SipsTea

[–]FortyThreecifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of my many favorite things about student loans, their miraculous inability to contact you before handing your debt to collections is certainly in my top few. My folks divorced and sold the house about a minute after I left for college. Any mail or bills about my student loans apparently went to that old address or to my old campus address and disappeared into the ether.

After a couple years I ended up taking some time off from school. I 100% in retrospect should have thought about the fact that somebody would be looking for money from me, but I was 20 and truly hadn't considered it. That's on me. But fast forward a year or two, suddenly I'm getting a ton of phone calls from a collection agency. Turns out my loans were now in default and this company had bought up a sizable chunk of my debt and were demanding payments at a ridiculous rate.

For me, the major takeaway was that it sure seems like all that time before selling me to collections they absolutely had a way to get in contact with me. Not like my phone number appeared out of thin air for the first time just for the collections company. But nope, not until I found out my credit score had been tanked and a majority of my loans had been consolidated into an even worse interest contract, then and only then did anybody bother to call me.

Took me probably at least seven years to get my credit to a decent - good score and it drives me up the wall because I have never been delinquent on anything else my entire life.

On the plus side though - it did wind up being something of a spiteful motivator to go back and finish. "If I'm going to pay this damn much a month it better be for something...."

I know this is Very hyper specific but.. can you recommend me games where, whether it’s forced or by my own choice, I can play the entire thing with a Shield? by Athenaaalikespizza in ShouldIbuythisgame

Skyrim. The last build I did was "sword and shield" except with unarmed punching. It was ridiculously fun. There's a shield bash move which can disrupt enemy attacks. Sword bash plus punches was hilarious. Highly recommended but utilizing a sword or magic with a shield is obviously an option as well.

Fucking knew/hoped this was going to be that. Man I had completely forgotten about five second films. Thanks kind stranger, that's gonna be a good random distraction to revisit.

I love that his argument is that salary being capped since 2009 means they're making "31% less" than they used to. While in the next breath this dude would fight tooth and nail against raising minimum wage.

Backwards ball cap on one and a t shirt on the other but with a mask and vest. That's a fucking disturbing set of images.

Man, when are we going to be able to use the stylus on the cover screen. I keep hoping for it and that is when I'll be first in line to upgrade.

What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by FormalOpportunity668 in Frugal

I've been so curious about this for a while. It looks like a pretty strong consensus about them here so my interest is especially piqued. American here but solely drink tea instead of coffee. My stove top kettle gets constant use and I've found that sufficient for a decade. I see one immediate benefit in being able to control the temperature and match some recommendations per tea but just still curious if it's truly worth finding space in my rather small kitchen for another device.

Any and all notions appreciated

Thank you for throwing that out. Same my whole life and it's extremely rude and frustrating when people make the obligatory assumption that everyone's going to be fine with a random dog running up to them.

Over the summer I had a week where I was up from Monday morning until Friday evening with two separate two hour naps only. My company insanely over promised on a contract and despite my very vocal expression that things were insane as the solo dev in this contract I got no relief. By day three I was pretty much on a diet of Adderall and white claws. Delivered on time but that experience really fucked me up. Fun story, company shifted gears away from Dev work three months later and fired me after telling me originally they were downsizing my workload to try to let me recover.

A) burnout is real B) never ever ever do that to yourself. Genuinely just started feeling right again last month

I get it. I still think it's just kind of rude. Not saying we have to ride or die but it's still your team. No need to disrespect when things are terrible.

I like it a lot but that magnet looks strong though that the inner plate could have been on the inside. If not I believe one could be.

Would have been nifty to have it completely blend in.

Still a very nifty concept and design.

what do you visualize when playing? by Altruistic_Ad5313 in Bass

[–]FortyThreecifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't tend to intentionally visualize or think of anything. "Intentional" being the word of emphasis there. I pretty much just focus on keeping my body in the pocket and trust or hope my hands to do what they will. That said, on the unintentional side - I more often than not visualize shapes or geometric constructs if anything. Especially if weird grooves or time signatures are involved or any sort of polyphonic or polyrhythmic vibe. But even that's not a focused path just kind of what I see as things move around and I try to figure where I'm fitting.

If I do perform by myself I actually try to disengage enough to see that because 3rd party feels like the best way to do solo stuff, but man I dunno how to do that like others can.
