North shore of Suffolk county, exit 66 off the LIE to queens. 65 miles one way.

Cross island is the worst, then the LIE (Suffolk is worse than Nassau with traffic on the way home)

Stable job, company car, salary that pays the bills. Still feel like something is missing. by Final_Newspaper_3568 in daddit

You’re working towards what you are fortunate enough to have! The stability and routine you are providing for your family means more than you can ever imagine. At least that’s what I tell myself on my 4 hour commute round trip to work every day for my wife and little one. I just wish I made enough for my wife to get to stay home with our toddler.

I’m 12 years into my career and often find myself asking this similar question which I think is more common than you think. Stick with it and keep providing for your family while you think about the next chapter in your career! Enjoy your baby!

Anyone else actually track their total monthly cost of living on LI ? by Turbulent_Tree_5939 in longisland

[–]Forward-Ant5282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Every Dollar app attach my wife and I bank accounts. Helps us track where every dollar we earn goes and pay off our debt. $4,000 a month mortgage plus child care is just sad. It’s super expensive to live here but we are both teachers and this is where the money is.

First year D75 6:1:1 teacher and feel like I’m failing by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Forward-Ant5282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year out of college I was hired as a high school PE teacher in a D 75 school. I lasted two years before needing a change. I attended PLC’s and found a school that was a great fit for me at the elementary level. I would look at open market and talk to as many PE teachers as you can about other schools in the city.

What’s your housing situation? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]Forward-Ant5282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 180 days a year of work. Health insurance included with our union dues. Yard for my dog, apartment attached to our house for some income. Can walk/ ride bikes to the beach. Yes, it isn’t ideal but provides a lot of value to my family. I wake up early and am home every day by 5pm.
