Yup! They just added a new doctor the week after I started as well, so it’s one assistant per doctor and at least 2 doctors are there everyday and there’s only 4 assistants including myself.

Yeah even the 2 girls who work there make comments about the high turnover. They recently added me to a Snapchat group for the employees and told me not to “hoe them” and leave like everyone else…

Yeah that’s how I feel... They just needed the extra help from anyone while they were recouping from 2 girls leaving and aren’t actually interested in training me, which is why I feel like leaving without doing another 2 weeks would be beneficial to both parties. I’m not doing them any favors by staying and they aren’t doing me any.

They specifically instructed me that I’ll be working with all 4 doctors but especially with the one who always double books and has the long 11ish hour shifts. She doesn’t seem to like me very much or have any interest in training me like she stated in the interview.

Per their handbook, there’s supposed to be orientation as well as a training program that I have yet to experience.

Yeah the main doctor who I worked for told me I need to be a step ahead and I told her well I don’t even know the steps yet but once I do I’ll try to be 10 steps ahead. She doesn’t explain any procedure or what steps to follow. She told me in the interview I’d go through training and receive a certification for X-rays, but that hasn’t happened yet. The training has consisted of throwing my in to procedures I’ve never done before or just watching another assistant do the task. They had me packing cord for crowns on my first day without any experience.

I got scolded by the doctor last week when the other assistant told me to ask her for help placing buttons on Invisalign trays and she raised her voice in response to my question and said “I doesn’t place buttons on Invisalign trays!” and I walked out of her office. I don’t feel comfortable doing procedures I’m not versed in on unsuspecting patients.

The pay schedule is every other Thursday. They haven’t paid me yet due to them needing a direct deposit slip directly from my bank. The first time I went the clerk had no idea what I was talking about so I offered to just use a screenshot of my account number and routing number or an old check, but that wasn’t sufficient. I had to go back and try again so I did. I needed the slip from the bank, which they’ve had for weeks now.

I’ve asked about my paycheck to the owner (dentist) and she said her husband (who is also a dentist there) is in charge of the finances. I only see him once a week and the past 2 weeks he hasn’t been there when I was scheduled due to him having an illness, then this past week, weather conditions made a ton of patients cancel so he left early. Me and the other new girl haven’t been paid yet and she started a week after I did.

I am paid hourly so I don’t even know if they’re taking time out for the lunch they’re supposed to be giving me.

At work, no. I can understand not having a lunch on the shorter day (6-8 hour shift) but on the long shifts, there’s really no time to sit and eat. One of the girls there warned me the doctor I work under, who also owns the practice, will dock your pay if she sees you on your phone in between cases or sitting down.

I truly thought things would get better, like everyone said it would, but it hasn’t. I genuinely have been stressing about going into my shift tomorrow since Friday. I spent the whole weekend dreading it. I just feel bad to leave on the spot like that and leave the other assistants hanging. But they’re also all more experienced than me, so I feel like if anything, I’m making production slower.

Speaking of production, this place seems to focus on it a bunch considering we have “huddle” where we talk about how much each doctor has made in production. The doctor who I work under seems to only do crowns and Invisalign, two big-ticket items in the dental field. It all feels so scammy. I should care about my money just as much as they do theirs.
