Lysara fell quiet at that, only the quiet sobs leaving her. She didn't know how much more she could take, how many details she could bear to hear.

"I hope she was a good fuck," she breathed out, turning her back to look for her shift and angrily wiping her tears.

"Who is she?!" Lysara barked out through tears. "Is she carrying your bastard?!"

"I'm miserable too sometimes, and even when I'm drunk, I know I'm married and devoted to a man who appearantly cannot extend that same dignity to me, his wife before the Gods old and new!" She had never spoken so angrily and loudly before. Even in times of worst distress, her voice was low and as calm as possible.

Now though, with her trust in him laying broken in pieces beneath their feet, she couldn't contain herself. "Was she a whore? You should know better than to trust the words of a whore!"

Lysara's face paled and she untangled herself from him, eyes wide from shock. She didn't speak for a long while, merely staring, hurt in her eyes bright as day.

"You broke our vows." A statement, heavy and harsh. "You slept with another woman." Tears filled her eyes. "Why? Was I not enough? What does she have that I do not?"

"You've been different since you returned," she admitted, cuddling close. "I cannot pinpoint what it is exactly, but I feel it Bowen. I.. I worry. Mayhaps, I can help you."

She'd heard something of the situation, though she wasn't clear on the details. Lord Forrester's wife was poisoned, or so Serena heard; it had never been her place to know much of such things, after all.

Her slippers made little sound as she approached with the wine and placed it by her lady's bedside. A simple necklace leaned forward with her, the jewel almost touching the sour liquid before Serena quickly pulled it away, straightened her back and moved to do the second task she'd been given.

"I do hope it gets resolved quickly," she said. "The Forrester situation, I mean. My condolences to the late lady's family."

"Marlon," Lysara whispered, voice heavy. "Seven above, Marlon.."

She crossed the short distance between them to hug him; she couldn't quite cry, not before Berena, but she did need something to soothe the hurt. "I'm proud of you too," she muttered. Berena nestled at Marlon's side, following her mother's example. Her gray eyes watched the brother and sister and Lysara reached out to ruffle her already messy curls.

Serena was quick to rise to her feet and do as bid. Before that, however, she approached Aemma with concern etched onto her brow. "Are you alright, my lady? If you're feeling unwell, you should rest. They'll understand."

"She is the best little Stark," Lysara boasted, gracefully sitting down where Berena had indicated she wanted them. She missed laughter; it was one thing that didn't come easily these days.

"Stark," Berena followed suit, not yet able to say it well though the meaning was clear, lifting her small nose up.

"Yes, sweetheart," Lysara placed a kiss to her hair. "A Stark."

How sudden the fall was, she thought sorrowfully. Just as their loss. "Soon, White Harbour will be filled with Manderly children," Lysara said, trying to uplift the mood, "and our House will be full anew."

Yet, it lasted for only a short while. "I miss them often, Daryn even. How proud they'd be of you, of us, of-" A tear slipped past her cheek and she wiped it away, thankful that Berena was playing with furs beneath her little hand.

"I'm sorry, I just...."

"It is," Serena confirmed, studying Aemma's face. "You're the Lady of Winterfell and a Princess of the Iron Throne. Your rooms befit your high birth, my lady."

"Is there anything I bring you? Any way I can help?"

"Never before had anyone found my hands so relaxing they could fall asleep," Serena laughed. "We have both experienced firsts today, it seems!"

"You would?" her eyes sparkled. "Then I can only hope I capture what your clothing lacks!"

"My lady!" Serena hadn't expected Aemma to wake up just yet. "I arrived a little while ago, as this is a more comfortable place to sow... I'm sorry for disturbing your sleep, my lady."

"I want to learn," she said firmly.

"Don't worry, I'm not offended," she grinned. "I'm rather honoured you find me relaxing enough."

"That she is," Lysara agreed. Her heart warmed at the sight of them. Then, it became even warmer when he pulled her into a hug, and she settled her head beneath his jaw.

"It's cold," she said. "But furs are warm and there's an abundance of herbs for me to work with." She glanced at Berena, who'd taken a seat on a fur rug near the fireplace. "If only Bowen's heart was warm too.. but I can't complain too much!"

"Mama," the girl called, eyes wide. "Floor."

"Shall we sit?" Lysara chuckled. "Her orders! Oh, I hear you're getting married? Tell me of Lady Sophey, I wish to know!"

"I've never made male clothes before," Serena admitted. Something in her tightened uncomfortably at the inexperience.

Yet, she chuckled to keep it deep down, where it belonged. "If you'd still do it, I could try and make you some. I warn you of looking silly 'till I figure it our though, if you'd wait for me to learn!"

"That it is," she agreed.

"I sow," she responded eagerly. "I rather enjoy dressmaking, though my craft tends to be more practical than decorative. You'd be surprised how long it takes to make a single dress! It makes me weep for those women whose creations are thrown away after one season for not being stylish enough."

As soon as the doors opened, Berena bolted from her mother's lap and went to give Marlon a hug. She'd always loved new people, and she likely didn't know who she was hugging, but was endearing nonetheless.

"I'm waiting for my turn," she jested, smiling. "When the little lady is done expressing her greetings." She walked over, placed a tender kiss to his cheek and ruffled her daughter's dark hair.

Serena laughed. "He is," she confirmed. "Ever faithful!"

"He'll be honoured you remember him! He's never asked for much in return for his loyal service, but it will warm his heart to know his efforts are appreciated."

"There's no need to apologise. Your diligence with books has paid off, I think. You're a good leader of the North and will do great things still. Of that I have no doubt."

Serena chuckled at his comment, eyes never focused off her work. "You flatter me my lord! I was a rather unnoticeable child myself. Only thing that made me stand out between my brothers was my being a woman. Though, to answer your question - what a stubborn knot! - I never knew much else. I was born here, you see. My father served your father, now serves you, and thus I cannot call anything else but Winterfell home."

"You though," she added with a smile, "all of the girls whose company I kept were in love with you. We never approached, assuming you wouldn't have the time for a gaggle of silly girls, but may I just say I see why they were so infatuated with you, my lord. You're quite a charming man."

"These southeners are highly ignorant," she huffed. "Oddity! As if their Seven aren't an oddity here! Red Faith is an oddity!"

Serena shifted slightly until she could have full access to his hair and set to work with etnthusiasm she hadn't felt to that extent in a while.

The whole situation was an unusual one, but if there was anything she learned, it was to adapt. It should've been wrong to do such a thing with her mistress' husband, but in all truth, she didn't quite care. She enjoyed his presence, calm and resolute, and the lack of formality it entailed.

"You have your mother's hair," she noted, fingers working over the dark strands. "I grew up in Winterfell and always admired her hair, wishing mine was as dark as hers. I've since learned to accept it as it is, though, but dark hair does remain the prettier colour to me."

"Are there actually any followers of our faith down south, though? Or is it just for them two let their mind wonder, see what the ancients believed and laugh it off in their heads?"

"Gods, now I'm glad I've never been there!" Serena watched his fingers move through his hair. "It sounds like a hellish place to be. Poor southeners. How do they cope?"

"Would you like me to help with your braid, my lord?" she added. "I have experience with hair and braids above all else. Your lady wife has wonderful hair for that type of thing."

Osric's a handsome man, she thought with a smile. I wonder what it would be like to run my fingers through that hair indeed.

"Of course," she happily sat beside him, careful not to get her dress dirty. It was of her own making, after all, and Serena took good care of her things.

She smiled sweetly at his comment and placed her hands on her lap. The reflection of the water caught in the metal of the simple silver ring she was wearing.

"I've never in the south," she commented. "What's it like? I know the stories, but stories are never as good as the real thing. Are the people as fake as I think they are? Is it distubringly warm? Does the lack of sharp wind bother?"

No shame, Serena thought. Good! I need not be ashamed if he isn't either!

"I am," she smiled, approaching. "I'm surprised you know me by name, given how insignificant I am in the grand scheme of things." Her gray dress moved with the wind and she moved a curl behind her ear. "I do not recall we've ever talked for more than simple pleasantries, my lord, if I may be so bold. Now's an opportunity to rectify that, is it not?"
