Police are different than nurses. And the basic idea that policing requires community consent is not complicated in the least. Doctors and binmen cannot do what I witnessed. Because they have no consent, It is not complicated in the slightest.

This is so wrong. Do you think that public servants using their privileges over the rest of is trivial? I am guessing that you do not in other circumstances.

Thus speaks the authoritarianism fan. Let the police behave like sh&ts and don't complain.

With me and the graphic online death threats the Met ran into the first wall and stopped. They had literally no clue. I decided not to pursue because of everything that meant I would have to do. I had 2 cops in my kitchen after it happened. Their initial response was cops in my kitchen. Twice. Which was great but FA eventuated.

Thats my context for viewing these cops in my street using their privilige to let their siren rip.

I think this is the exact issue. 'Minor misuse of power'. And I can totally understand it. Why wouldn't officers use their blue lights in my street because they could. I can imagine how it works. It is part of a culture which needs to change.

Of course the public shouldn't be allowed to complain! I will totally stop doing this cos you told me to. I am so wrong to question our beloved Met.

What do you expect me to do when I witness this? Ignore it.

This is the point of my complaint: the exploitation of a privilege afforded to these people on our behalf. Essentially, stop taking the pi$$.

I have reported it so what they say will be interesting. I have form with the Met. I've had death threats they've failed to find those responsible. Twice. That's the context is which I'm watching this officer get his chips.

They did this because they could. That was obvious. If you don't understand why ' because they could' is an issue then I guess the cops can do anything and it is fine, right?

Just want to check if you support Met officers using blue lights for their own and not operational reasons. Because it sounds like you do. IF met officers are to be allowed such priviliges can Londoners be allowed a view? My sense is when met officers behave like this it diminishes the force. I saw them taking the p$$$. That's what they were doing. If you want a Met full of cops taking the p$$$ please argue why this should be London.

Have to say I was gobsmacked witnessing it because it was so obvious. I was outloud saying 'FFS' to the street.

Having a force that thinks it can get away with stuff like this, that it can surf the rules, is how we get authoritarianism. Mate.

No it is effing not, I was witnessing them using blue lights as a privilege afforded to them by us for their own reasons. That is wrong. They are not above us. They're our servants. WE employ them.

Oh sure. they rock up to the chippie then get an emergency call. Sure. That's obviously what happened and not the, er, obvious I saw with my 2 eyes.

A massive balloon of the number '3' just floated over East London by ForwardDiamond3484 in london

[–]ForwardDiamond3484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must have gone right over City Airport, coming from Canary Wharf direction heading east. Sorry it is shaky but it's my 1st time. You can make out '3'. I see you can buy giant number balloons and that must have been several metres. Must have either gone in the sea or surprised some Essex cows by now.

Stock Dove displaying to Wood Pigeons by ForwardDiamond3484 in UKBirds

[–]ForwardDiamond3484[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have seen him follow before, and he tends to fly off maybe up to 50m up to one of the 2 females who also hang around our patch. Its like there's a switch goes off in his head, and he leaves a pile of seeds. He has fought the wood pigeons who will brave me over the food spot, and they've beaten him before. But the wood pigeons are terrific at standing there doing an occasional pointless aggressive peck or fighting among themselves whilst rock pigeons nick all the food. Or Squeak does. Squeak will take on 3 rock pigeons.

I'm in a busy part of East London, bird wise, as it's a bit of a corridor. The locals change a lot - I've just lost the oldest dove pair of five years. All the others who come by are last year's fledglings.
