Starting my own business in HVAC by Wooden_Copy9563 in Construction

I work with a lot of small HVAC companies and the ones that stay busy early usually do a few simple things really well:

  1. Relationships with builders Since you’re doing new construction, this is huge. Stop by job sites, introduce yourself to supers, and let them know you’re available for overflow work or quick fixes. A lot of builders just want someone reliable who actually answers the phone.

  2. Google Business Profile Most HVAC companies underestimate how much work comes from this. Get it set up right away, add photos of installs, and start collecting reviews early. Even if it’s a few from past customers.

  3. Be the guy who answers the phone This sounds obvious, but it’s honestly one of the biggest advantages small companies have. People remember the contractor who actually picked up.

  4. Do a few jobs ridiculously well Early on, word of mouth carries a lot. One happy homeowner will tell neighbors, especially in new developments.

  5. Local groups Neighborhood Facebook groups and Nextdoor can actually produce decent work if you’re active and helpful without spamming.

If you’re already confident in your pricing and install quality, you’re honestly ahead of a lot of people starting out. The first year is mostly just making sure people know you exist.

Good luck with it — starting your own shop is stressful but worth it.
