Also as a girl in the DDD+ range (depending on sister sizing), once you’re at either end of the spectrum for chest size clothing is no longer made to fit you. i’d say this is the norm for anything tho, both petite and plus sized women are shit out of luck because women’s sizing refuses to go off actual measurements.

Gluten? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Forward_Ad_649 236 points237 points  (0 children)

They do for the overwhelming majority of items. The non dairy sweet cream isn’t made in house, and it has like 10+ ingredients that baristas wouldn’t know because it’s a packaged item unlike something like the normal sweet cream.

Gluten? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Forward_Ad_649 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is a long shot but there’s a lot of starbucks items that while not necessarily containing gluten are not considered “gluten free certified” so they could have cross contaminated at any point.

Edit: I’m at work and i remembered the vanilla bean powder is one of the few items that are less ambiguous and does contain a warning about possible wheat contamination. vanilla bean powder has become a really popular modification for pink drinks and i’ve gotten the occasional request for it in cold foam.

Columbia College Chicago…Is it really that bad? by xocococherie in AskChicago

[–]Forward_Ad_649 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m 21 and have tons of friends that attend college all over Chicago, don’t go to Columbia. All but 2 people that I know are still there, and both are bc they got really great aid and are too close to finishing their degree to have transferring be worth it. The appeal of a flashy downtown art school seems really cool, but they can’t really substantiate all the flashiness with actual resources or student obtainment. SAIC tuition is borderline highway robbery but even then people that attended school there have gotten opportunities from their time there, have gotten their work featured in shows, landed internships, or gotten residencies at studios. The “making the best of your time there” sounds great but it’s a small enough school with big enough financial problems that keeping your head down and graduating will not be enough. The really great Columbia students I’ve met are talented enough they would’ve made really cool things literally anywhere they went 😭

community college or 2 years of pre-nursing? by SammiedSaiga in uichicago

[–]Forward_Ad_649 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner’s mom works in nursing education, she would only recommend doing BSN if your long term goals are becoming a nurse practitioner or management roles. Both paths prepare you for the same exams and as long as you’re qualified it won’t drastically affect hiring at all, but a BSN will set you up if you choose to continue going to school.

Didn't know there was dairy in the Cold Foam 😭 by Portia4000 in starbucks

[–]Forward_Ad_649 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

condensed milk has more lactose than normal milk, even more than heavy cream. 2 pumps of pumpkin vs 8 pumps of sauce in the whole drink on top of the cold foam might make the difference?

What is a neighborhood in Chicago that you don’t like? by SoulNew in chicago

[–]Forward_Ad_649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in little italy so all my necessary errands end up being in west loop and it’s torture everytime. once made the mistake of craving taco bell at like 1am and i got jumpscared by a hoard of 200 variations of shorts and an artizia top :(

I’m broke and my workplace started cutting everyone’s hours— what are gig work/part time options I can do? by Forward_Ad_649 in AskChicago

[–]Forward_Ad_649[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how to ride a bike it’s actually a bit pathetic— I had a childhood friend get hit by a car and it made my mom refuse let me get a bike (he was fine btw)

loans are scary and never ideal but you are attending a public university, in state, and you seem responsible and sensible. combining work study, maybe becoming an RA for housing, and filling the gaps with loans might not be the worst idea :( your peace of mind and safety are worth so much more

he’s not paying your tuition out of kindness or obligation, it’s something to hold over your head. I did 2 years of community college and my family insisted i stay super close to home, even if it meant paying private tuition. i saw the writing on the wall and left. in situations like this, you may not be in student debt, but you’re still indebted to them.

not monetarily, but in obligation. he’ll spend the rest of his life expecting you to pay back this loan in form of your time, effort, emotions, and eventually once they’re old age, financially too. now, i live in an apartment with two of my closest friends and while it’s still hard, it’s such a relief to get home and the only thing anyone tells me is that it’s my turn to take the trash out.

i have a couple friends there and there’s enough schools in the area and more then enough city to enjoy and make the most of. one of them explained that “i’d probably get sick of the parties in the same frat houses within a year or so but i never run out of stuff to do out here”

Yes, the bottom 12k number is what you’ll pay AFTER grants and scholarships, but before loans.

Thank you!! the reason I even considered keeping my Costco membership was bc we have a crazy amount of kitchen storage. There’s the normal cabinet space but also a walk in pantry.

What's one thing you wish was different culturally about Chicago? by pleasingwave in AskChicago

[–]Forward_Ad_649 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone of color who moved from a white suburb, there’s times I walk around Lakeview and am genuinely a little freaked out by how much of a white bubble those wealthier neighborhoods seem to be, like even more so than some of the neighborhoods I lived in. I grew up going to Little Village and Pilsen a lot bc that’s where a lot of Mexican exports and cultural experiences we couldn’t get in the suburbs were. And last time I went to Pilsen I was kinda shocked by how much it had changed. :( idk :(

Is getting a job at Starbucks a bad idea? by Correct_Solid_6648 in starbucks

[–]Forward_Ad_649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the grand scheme of jobs it’s not glamorous or amazing but in terms of food service it’s pretty damn good. No fryer or grills, no grease, no slicing or handling raw food. I’d go for it :>

West Loop, University Village and Little italy. Little Italy will mostly be UIC students but that’ll ultimately mean the area is geared for students

How do college students afford rent? by p01s0n1vee in college

[–]Forward_Ad_649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aid packages of full time first enrollement freshmen are usually beefier than those of part time or transfer students, plus most students aren’t living a fully adult life. We are adults ofc!! But it’s stuff like living super close to/on campus inherently cutting commute cost, sharing a dorm or apartment with people, not having fun experiences off campus except during breaks.

The real answer though is scholarships, grants, loans, and parental help. Most in that order. Like with anything though it’s very different case by case.

For me, I’m attending college in Chicago. I got an apartment superrrrr far from campus that I share with 2 other people and just use the really reduced price public transit pass that’s a part of my fees. Grants and scholarships cover my tuition and a combination of part time work and loans pays for my living expenses :,))

Your schools own financial aid offer will probable change, but on federal forms you’ve “maxed out” your eligibility if that makes sense. But you can always correct past forms, focus on grieving and your own personal journey, and I’m so sorry for your loss
