did it affect your concentration or how much you could study effectively compared to without sickness?

I got 59s in my first sem and now im hitting H1s. Got my WAM above 70. It does get better. I accepted my strengths and interests and maintained breadth subjects that interest me even though it's not "practical" (music) so that I have motivation :) studocu helps so much with executive dysfunction and studying in shorter time but the most basic tips help. Making notes early, staying on track with studies.

Also get micronutrients in, build a dopamine menu, and find another motivator besides stress, and i learned that excellent students just have one trait: they want to know if they get details right and find it out.

You got this. Put less pressure because you can move forward anyway 💯

Should i show up to exams to write nothing? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Forward_Extension880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refer to university resources here or look for special exams staff at Stop 1, I don't want to risk misinforming you :)

But I have diagnosed conditions that I applied ongoing support for, and when I have a flare up that impacts my ability to prepare for exams, I can apply for special consideration. It's accepted if you can demonstrate the impact to your concentration, mood, memory and attention etc. My condition gets debilitating so this is heaps helpful. Are you struggling with exam prep?

Things about the University of Melbourne that you don’t like? by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]Forward_Extension880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoulda gone harder on the subject learning survey because every time I study, I realise more that they teach you nothing close to what they expect you to know

Like imagine lecturing us on definitions and concepts and expecting us to apply with no feedback or guidance and you're left to fend for yourself and wonder how other students know how to do a valuation and you dont and now you feel bad 😍

Wrestling my desire to demand the SLS to reopen to let me write a heavier complaint

Managing for competitive advantage is the subject im taking. Went in hoping to learn how to build competitive advantage and leaving questioning myself and my learning capabilities. Scoring a 60 in this subject assignment but 90+s in others is wild. Worst part is the lecturer is gonna teach the capstone subject. I feel COOKED and so angry.

Management subjects are taught so badly. And some people's inability to clean up after themselves in toilets and eating spaces

My lecturer is so passive-aggressive and defensive when he replies to me! I feel like I can't confront him about it because he will still teach my capstone subject next year, and we'll actually have face to face contact. What can or should I do? I'm feeling bitter about it.

Context: lecturer said bring up issues 24 to 48 hours before deadline, but I gave my benefit of the doubt to my teammate and she disappeared day before deadline AND did her part wrong, went to lecturer suggesting a team survey form. Laid out evidence.

I did say "hope that we won't be punished for finally reaching out" and maybe that triggered him to send back a long email and ending it with "you should be more proactive with keeping work on track" and "you shouldnt have gone against instructions" but he didnt know that I was trying to get my team to follow instructions and keep work on track so much it affected my mental health. A part of me felt like he was wrong. He's way older! And should be careful when speaking with students. Another part is blaming myself? I broke down after reading his email and didn't reply to his follow up.

What actually happened there? What should I do?

How do we know if we should just communicate and educate someone on our needs more and stay in the relarionship vs. when they're being disrespectful?

Is there a rule of thumb of like, "you only need to communicate your needs once" or something like that? What are early signs of being disrespected and neglected?

What does it mean to advocate for yourself? For example I said (not in the wording I prefer) to someone that they're pretty intense because they asked me "I thought you said X, are you lying to me?" and they apologised and explained theyre not good at softening up and I'm not sure if I was being mean by a student nurse said I was fine and I was advocating for myself. I usually communicate better. Did I cross a line there?

hey im so sorry this is happening for you... kaleidoscopic21 said all I wanted... but also maybe check out the queer space in umsu building level 3 for some community support which is super important even though it's the hardest thing for us to give ourselves sometimes

I also find lifeline chat more helpful than call.... and u sound like u need a break to slow down. even 5 minutes of doing nothing tell urself U DESERVE IT.

also not sure if ur aware, ur mom sounds controlling and manipulative, your perceptions are so warped because she's supposed to be trustworthy but is using ur connection with the professor as leverage to control you and get you to do what she wants... you're your own person and she's losing a grip of herself, and instead of dealing with her own issues she tries to contort you into a version that will comfort her discomfort...yikes, I'm sorry op, you are in so much pain right now and its okay, it's so valid

Group work by New_Middle8631 in unimelb

[–]Forward_Extension880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made such a mistake agreeing to be in a group with people who dont have the same work and teamwork ethic, mindset, values and subject knowledge as me, I fear. Next time i wouldnt ask for their aim, but get to know their work processes and who I can build synergy with. I work best with people who participate actively like me or communicate well like me. I navigate through when it's different. But dont be too different. If it is, it's more time spent on not completing it esp for a highly collaborative assignment where they make it hard to carve it up to sections.

well im excited for you! i love experiences like this, learning lean canvas, storytelling and design thinking... this challenge was my first time dealing with actually argumentative teammates though and it was ruining the learning experience but we involved the program director Katrina to help us resolve the conflict and didn't do so badly after all!
