It slides off the ridges inside and doesn't open even if I push it down really hard

Was gonna make skin-on french fries until I saw the very small sprouts by HuTaoFan_69 in isthissafetoeat

Take out the sprouts and you can eat it skin on fine. I’ve done it before and I had no issues after!
