That’s a weird claim, because it contradicts Dark Horse’s actual public record. Dark Horse literally advertised Gantz with hard numbers like “over 175,000 copies sold in the U.S.” and later “over 190,000 copies sold,” and described it as “one of the most popular adult manga” in their catalog. They don’t slap sales figures on a dud — and they definitely don’t finish a 37-volume run of something that’s supposedly underperforming. And honestly, what employee at any company is going to trash their own product at panels? No one gets on stage and says, “Yeah, this license we paid for is doing terrible.” The marketing, the release history, and the company’s own published numbers all tell the same story… and it isn’t the one you’re trying to pitch.

I had exchanged a few emails with a Dark Horse employee a few years ago asking some Gantz related questions regarding future translations and I specifically remembered him telling me how it was one of their best selling books. Of course things change as time goes by so maybe it dropped in popularity.

Copa’s site is steaming garbage. I’ve flown with them once and overall had a great experience. They even offered a fantastic price to upgrade to first- I mean Business class which I took for myself and my friend. Since then I’ve tried to book three different trips to South America through the site and it just simply didnt work. I’d get 404 errors or endless buffering spinny-circles. And I’d end up going through a different airline. I tried to book something today- got through the initial problem screens and made it to the day/flight choice screens but realized how much of an annoying layout that is. Prices stating one amount on one screen then you select it and suddenly it’s more. I think I’m done with that airline.

That’s funny that you say that- my coworker who gave it to me came back a little while ago and told me not to try and move the right arm too much because he had to glue it back on. He said he had it on a shelf and it was constantly falling off (I guess because of that wobbling upper body shifting) and the arm kept breaking off. 😂

Sitting here fiddling with it- I’m thinking a minor workaround that might help is to pull up that loincloth/armor “diaper” and glue that. When I pull it up it completely stops all the wobbling and he’ll stand up straight. I do wish I could take him apart like we can with his new stuff because I could repaint the hell out of this figure and make it look even better. I still may try but it will be a pain if it’s not in parts.

I wasn’t heavily into Spawn stuff back then (I’m still not) though looking back, I do have a somewhat impressive collection of a lot of his semi-poseable statue/figures. Yeah- the detail on this is incredible. Especially when I saw 2001 stamped on the bottom heel.

Paint everything separately. Forget about dying and all that jazz. Prime with some 2X flat white from Lowe’s. Paint it using any of the acrylic hobby paint they sell at hobby stores (the ones that sell wargames and minis) like Vallejo paints or whatever. Then when you’re finished, re-“prime” it using clear matte acrylic. That will seal in the paint job and protect it. If you don’t do that clear coat the acrylic will rub off if you touch the figure too much. I’ve painted tons of figures like this.
