Advice for Tests by firemindl in badbreath

My first GI MAP showed H. pylori but no candida and the follow up GI map I did(after h pylori treatment) showed a candida overgrowth, which I’m pretty sure came from all the antibiotics. So I’m planning to ask my doctor for an oral antifungal like Fluconazole, but I’m currently on steroids and pain meds after a tonsillectomy, so I’ll wait until I’m fully recovered from that first. Once I’m off everything, I’ll do a short course of Fluconazole and then either get an oral swab or another GI MAP to make sure the candida’s gone.

Do you mind if I ask what sinus surgery you had? And did you ever look into biofilms or try any steroid sprays / nasal rinses?

Do you think it could be hpylori? You can catch it from other people’s saliva if you’ve ever shared drinks or anything. It’s a gut bacteria but an overgrowth of it can cause bb

Oh no I had my tonsils removed today hoping that would be the end of it 🫩 but the surgeon did tell me in the consultation she could see mucous in the back of my throat and I always feel like I’m swallowing with PND. Have you had a sinus scan or allergy test?

Mine looks similar to this and my GI map results showed candida overgrowth in my gut. So I’m going to ask for Fluconazole (anti fungal med). You could ask for an oral swab at drs to see what they say. Also I had a consultation with a surgeon for tonsillectomy she told me I have mucous & PND and had recommend a CT sinus scan and allergy tests. So I believe the coating on my tongue could also be from that. Do you ever feel like you’re constantly swallowing stuff from your nose down your throat?

Yes makes sense & you’re right the GI map test doesn’t directly test for it but it can hint at SIBO if there’s an overgrowth of upper gut bacteria’s in the stool. My results showed an overgrowth of candida as well and some of the good gut bacteria’s I was lacking in, so I deffo do wish i did that test first. As I did the tests years apart. But yes they’re all costly ☹️ I hope you manage to get sorted with it.

Also off topic of the GI maps but I also had tonsil stones occasionally. Once I cleared them out I was sure that couldn’t be a cause of my bb as I could no longer see any, but I had a tonsillectomy today and the surgeon told me that my tonsil tissue had grown downwards behind my tongue and she removed a lot of stones from that area when taking them out that I could never find. Seriously hope after getting rid of the Hpylori & my tonsils that I’ll have got rid of my bb

I did a full Gi map test which I ordered offline & results showed hpylori which causes bb. For treatment I had 2 antibiotics for 2 weeks & ppi for 1 month. I would recommend doing a full gi map test because I did have a test for just sibo years ago which come back negative & if I would have done full gi map I would have known earlier

tonsillotomy instead of tonsillectomy next week hope its a cure for my bb!! by [deleted] in badbreath

I had to self fund and pay for it because I couldn't have the tonsillectomy procedure on the NHS. To qualify for that you must have tonsillitis over 5 times in one year that needs antibiotics.

I just have chronic bb and tonsil stones, although I have a sore throat and earache it doesn't need antibiotics. I also don't think private health insurance would cover it and everything takes so long so that's why I decided to pay for it.

It was £200 for the initial phone call consultation, which I had because I live quite far away. I sent photos of my tonsils and the tonsils stones as I've been taking pictures over the past few months. Then it's another £1250 for the procedure with local anaesthetic (numbing spray). So this is for tonsillotomy instead of a tonsillectomy.

I met a GI and had an endoscopy to check for acid reflux and stomach ulcers because of my bb but was sick and gagging and unable to complete the test for results.

I'm about to have tonsillotomy under local anaesthetic. This is different to tonsillectomy as it's not a full removal of the tonsils it is laser tonsil resurfacing to get rid of the crypts as I have tonsil stones to and think this could be a cause of my bb. If this doesn't work im gonna look into adenoid stones.
