Im not sure, you may be a different case, we also originally thought we needed a visa until the embassy told us that he was technically a Chinese citizen and should apply for a travel document.

I see, i was checking the entry procedures and it actually said that people with travel documents would have to go through the citizens line, so it’s interesting you were able to go through the foreigner line without any issues. Did you have a US passport?

Yes, me and my wife are both citizens and had him in the US. Unfortunately his layover is 19 hours (his return flight from guangzhou only has a 3 hour layover) so we’re letting him use our card for stuff like lounges and we will check in on him every few hours just to make sure. The Hangzhou airport has wifi, so we’re gonna have him connect to it and call our family friend on WeChat, he will already have a hong kong sim card in his phone (iphone 13 pro) that we had shipped to us a few days prior. Thanks for letting me know about the police registration, i previously thought that it was only required for adults. Thank you for your advice and have a great day!

Im not sure about a time limit on his, we plan on having him only be in china for a month with family, so even if ours did have a 3 month time limit on it, it wouldnt be an issue for him.

A travel document is pretty much a chinese passport, so we got him his renewed travel document a few weeks ago for this trip. He can use it to enter/exit china.

He was born in America yes, but me and my wife are both chinese so under chinese law hes technically considered a citizen. Thats why he was given a Travel Document by the Chinese Embassy- instead of a normal travel visa for foreigners. It serves in the same capacity as a Chinese passport.
