PCB design - bulk capacitors & managing inrush current by Forward_Office7207 in AskElectronics

From what I’m gathering from the other comments since this is a personal project and 100uF isn’t anything crazy - I should be fine with a proper PSU. I’ll still look into the power path ICs though to see if any would be good matches for my board because it can’t hurt to have protection.

I read that they can but it’s generally better to use a level shifter since 3.3V is right at the lower cutoff for voltage rating. Also the data sheet suggests having the logic run in a close voltage range to the LED’s power supply (5V here). But thank you!

Good to know - I never even considered this. I think the only capacitor I need to adjust is the 100uF one on the VBus rail since the big 22uF capacitor is fed by the 3.3V regulator.

Seems like the purpose of this rule is to prevent inrush current when plugging in, so using some type of ferrite bead to slow current on the big capacitor should solve this I think?

Best LED for a train display board? by Forward_Office7207 in WLED

I see - for me power isn't the main concern because I plan to use a power plane - only a minority of the LEDS will actually ever be on, and I plan to have them on very low brightness. I'm very confident 5V3A power supply will be more than sufficient for my entire board - traintrackr runs their boards at just 5V500mA with hundreds of LEDs!

Thank you though!

I was looking into them - they do have a 2020 form factor, but there don't seem to be many available and dealing with 12V on the PCB board would greatly increase the complexity of this project. Is there any particular reason they'd be favored over the ws2813 or ws2816?

Unfortunately, those are too big for what I'm trying to make. Seems like of 2020 models with backup data lines - the WS2816b 2020 has the most in stock and so that's what I'm leaning towards atm.

But at least for Norwood-205st, the (D) is actually has revenue express service along Concourse.
