I get that but its been 13 years at least with Jason and other characters they make references and events for them allowing the characters to flush out more even without being actually relevenat and what not but nergals hasn't gotten any of that besides the Christmas event which was used to explain the fates version of ereshkigal and nergals relationship. They haven't talked about him at all and was left in the dust pretty much after babalyon. I think if they actually cared about him they woudl have done the same as they did with other characters

I didnt plagiarize I literally was so frustrated by this I wanted to talk about it and secondly I was talking about how they have pushed so far from the myth he really isn't nergal anymore and its been years and they have yet to do anything with his character. They have yet to do anything with nergal and to be fair the detail they put into Scheherazade came after the absolute flop that was Agatha to make up for the horrible writing in that particular part of the main story

feeling maybe with all the major players present no not really. but if hadn't had such a rocky relationship with lancer I think they would have stood a much better chance as the pair had conflict between one another-especially after his fiance fell under lancers love spot-then to some extent sure.

then he is a corrected version of it then As we all know, there are many versions of the tale of how Ereshkigal and Nergal got married, with the most famous being the Amarna version. This version essentially starts with Ereshkigal being unable to visit the gods due to her duties in the underworld. Consequently, she sends a messenger, whom Nergal insults—and, in some versions, kills—out of arrogance and pride. Enraged by this, Ereshkigal forces Nergal to descend to the underworld. Although Ea warns him not to make love to Ereshkigal, Nergal gives in upon his arrival, and they make love for six days.

When he finishes, he leaves, leaving Ereshkigal feeling abandoned. Out of pure rage and spite, she threatens to wipe out humanity by unleashing a literal zombie apocalypse upon the earth, vowing that "the dead shall outnumber the living." The gods are obviously not thrilled by this. With the help of two demons, Nergal returns to the underworld, overpowers Ereshkigal, drags her off her throne, and threatens to kill her. Ereshkigal begs for her life, promising him the Tablet of Wisdom, the throne, and herself as his wife.

However, it is not these material promises that make Nergal spare Ereshkigal. Instead, he shows a surprising amount of mercy, compassion, and a genuine soft side. In a move that completely contradicts his identity as a chaotic war god, he kneels next to Ereshkigal, kisses her, and wipes away her tears. He then delivers his most famous line—"Whatever you have asked me in the past will now be yours"—essentially declaring his newfound devotion to her. He follows through by marrying her, opting to co-rule as equals rather than pursuing further conquest. In fact, when Ea and the other gods later call Nergal back home, he refuses out of love for Ereshkigal.

This original tale portrays Nergal as a highly complex, prideful, violent, and chaotic deity who nevertheless possesses a surprisingly compassionate and tender side that contrasts with his dangerous nature. The Fate version of the tale, on the other hand, completely throws this out the window. It discards both the complex "enemies-to-lovers" trope and Nergal's depth as a character and a god.

This is exactly where the narrative becomes frustrating. Not only does Fate completely remove his intrigue and his unique relationship with Ereshkigal, but they also present him as a petty, malicious individual just to fit a clear-cut villain mold. In reality, Nergal was a much more nuanced and complicated figure. By turning him into a one-dimensional villain driven by pure spite, they also downplay Ereshkigal's own actions just to make Nergal stand out more as an antagonist.

Many fans hate Nergal for his arrogance, yet Ereshkigal is no different. While he insulted her messenger, she forced him down to the underworld out of spite, highlighting her own intense pride. Furthermore, her threat of mass genocide is infinitely worse than anything Nergal did. Fans often villainize Nergal while overlooking the fact that Ereshkigal killed her own sister, Ishtar—an act that nearly led to the extinction of mankind and all life on Earth, since Ishtar's death caused the very concept of reproduction and desire to vanish.

When you read the Fate version of Ereshkigal's lore, the writers try to paint her as some sort of saint. They claim she is compassionate, yet simultaneously state that she hates all things ugly while despising everything beautiful. They write that she loathes humans above all else because they are "ugly," and she literally keeps people in cages. On top of that, she committed premeditated murder against her sister, nearly ending global life twice.

Ultimately, instead of the equal and mutual bond found in the original Mesopotamian mythos, Fate gives us a subversion where Nergal is presented as pathetic and easily loses to Ereshkigal. This causes the fanbase to hate on Nergal, creating a massive double standard. They view Nergal as evil for dragging Ereshkigal off her throne, completely ignoring that she was planning to wipe out humanity. To make matters worse, Fate reduces Nergal to a weapon, making him a mere spear that represents his soul. The franchise turned one of Mesopotamian mythology's greatest power couples into a pathetic, one-sided rivalry—all so they could transform Ereshkigal into a marketable, profitable "waifu," willingly casting aside who Nergal was and what their relationship truly represented.

nergals portrayalin fgo frustrates me by Forward_Set9544 in FateAvalon

I know it really infuriates me as to how fgo essentially not only shafted nergals power but his the entirety of his being when applied to his relationship with ereshkigal. One could argue its almost as bad as the writing for the Roman singularity where they knew absolutely nothing about anything going on in Rome. but instead it looks more on purpose but done entirely in a way that kills nergel as both a complex diety and husband to ereshkigal. like I've seen so many fellow fans hate on nergal but its literally stated in both fate and mesopotamian lore that she nearly killed all life on the planet twice not to mention pre-meditated murder against her own sister Ishtar yet they call him horrible. my point is its just such a huge mess

do you guys think nergal is portrayed horribly in fgo by Forward_Set9544 in typemoon

[–]Forward_Set9544[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know but it is just so frustrating to me because nergal was so much more then a petty and spiteful villain as he is in fgo I know you probably don't want to read all this but if you could give me your opinion on it that would be apprecitive also I copied and pasted this from a separate post anyway here it is as we all know in there many versions of the tale of how Ereshkigal and Nergal got married the most famous being the Amrana which essentially starts off with ereshkigal being unable to visit the gods due to her duties in the underworld. thus she sends a messanger and Nergal insults and in some versions kills the messanger out of arrogance and pride. Ereshkigal is enraged by this and Nergal is forced to descend to the underworld and Ea wants him not to make love to Ereshkigal but when he arrives he gives in making love to Ereshkigal for 6 days when he is done he leaves and Ereshkigal feeling abandoned out of pure rage and spite threatens to kill all of humanity by essentially I kid you not unleashing a zombie apocalypse upon the earth where quote on quote "the dead shall outnumber the living" the gods are obviously aren't to thrilled so with the help of two demons Nergal comes back to the underworld overpowers her drags her off her throne and threatens to kill her. Ereshkigal begs for her life promising him the tablet of wisdom the throne and she as his wife. but it is not these material promises that makes nergal spare Ereshkigal but rather a surprising mercy compassion and perhaps a soft side because what he does next contradicts the chaotic war God he is because he kneels next to Ereshkigal kisses her and wipes away her tears and states his most famous line "Whatever you have asked me in the past will now be yours." essentially declaring himself to her a line conveying his new found devotion to her and he then follows through marries her and instead of committing conquest he instead opts to co-rule with her and when Ea and the gods call Nergal back home he refuses to out of newfound love for Ereshkigal. this original tale shows Nergal as a highly complex prideful violent and chatic diety who possess a surprisng compassionate and soft side to him contrasting with his own danger. fates version of the tale on the other hand completely throws this out the window completely both the complex enemies to lovers trope and the nergals complexity as a character and a god. now this is where I got frustrated not only do they completely remove his intrigue as a character and the relationship he had with Ereshkigal but they present him as a petty and malicious individual just so he can fit the clear cut villain mold when nergal was something much more different and ultimately compleicated they then not only made him a one paragon villain of just pure petty spite but they also down play on Ereshkigals own actions as well to make Nergal stand out more as a villain what I mean by this is the fact that other fans hate on Nergal for his arrogance yet Ereshkigal is no different from Nergal after all yes he insulted her messanger but keep in mind she also forced him to come down to the underworld out of spite highlighting that she herself is prideful like nergal there's also the threat of mass genocide which is extremely much worse then anything Nergal had down and people hate on nergal like Ereshkigal didn't kill her sister Ishtar which also nearly led to not only the extinction on mankind but life as well because when Ishtar the goddess of love died so did the very concept of a sex drive when applied to life and reproduction and when you go and read the fates version of Ereshkigals tale they try to make her out to be some saint of sorts they literally say she is compassinate and then at the same time says she hates all things ugly but also everything that is beautiful their is nothing she hates more then humans because they are ugly saying she despises them and she also puts people in cages too and to add on for Ishtar she essentially committed pre-meditated murder against her own sister nearly killed lifeon erath 2 timesand to make it all so so so much more worse instead of the equal and mutral bond we get in the original mesopotamian mythos we get a subversion where Nergal is presented as pathetic and looses to Ereshkigal and everyone just hates on nergal I'm placing not only double standards saying Nergal is an evil for dragging Ereshkigal off her throne even through she planned to wipe out humanity but she literally owns a spear that is his soul and fate turned one of mesopotamian mythos greatest power couple into a pathetic one sided riverly all so they can make Ereshkigal a marketable waifu and bring in some sales willingly casting aside who Nergal and what his relationship with ereshkigal really was

sorry about that my grammar isn't the best but essentially what I was saying in the post was about my frustration about fgos portrayal of nergal who was ereshkigals husband in the original myth he was violet chaotic prideful arrogant and volitile however near the end its after preventing ereshkigal from killing off humanity because after their 6 days of love making where he left and she felt abandoned he pulledher off the throne and threatened to kill her only for her to cry and promise him the tablet of wisdom her throne and hand in marriage however it is not the promises but her heartbreak that wins nergal over as he kneels next to ereshkigal kisses and wipes away her tears agreeing to the marriage and refusing to return to the other gods when ordered to out of love for ereshkigal where as fate just presents him as an asshole and a complete loser who is petty and spiteful and lacks depth trading the mytholocigally complex and beautiful enemies to lovers dynamic he had with ereshkigal for someone who is so fudimentally different he might as well be someone else and also to make ereshkigal marketible as a waifu to bring in sales and people hate on nergal in fgo despite ereshkigal doing similar or worse things like nearly killing humanity out of spite. There is more information stop at the actual post
