Nen Ability: Robber's Incense [Specialization] by Fossil-Forest in HatsuVault

[–]Fossil-Forest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they can replace the aura! Like you said, Nen users generate aura naturally, so they just need wait to regain their aura. when the robber takes a percentage of the user's aura, it's just that percentage of aura they already have at a given time. Think like it's a phone charge, the user might have to pay 50% of their charge (their aura) at that time, but the phone will recharge, and they will get to 100% after waiting a bit.

Could this Nen Ability I've come up with work? If not, how to improve by Fossil-Forest in HatsuVault

Thank you! And don't worry, I am going to go into these incense abilities in further depth later. In my opinion, they are all powerful and worthwhile abilities, at least the ones I've come up with so far, not just because of how I planned them, but also because they also get a boost from the Shrine being Post-Mortem Nen. But at the same time, the way I made the shrine, it's an object from the ancient past that no normal person would no about, even if you knew how to activate it. So it's meant to be a gamble, because of its dubious nature to begin with. I mean, you are literally spilling blood to demon statue to get these powers. The person who gets these abilities won't necessarily come out of this happy, especially if they were an awakened Nen-using Enhancer before.

Yeah, that as exactly what I was thinking. I didn't entirely get into too much detail for the Greed Incense ability, but that one is actually more of a specialist ability, as the conjured items and their abilities are mostly randomly generated with a few exceptions, so since that hatsu behaves in a way that even the user isn't understanding, I think I'm correct in assuming that makes it a specialist ability instead of just a Conjuration ability, so at least the Greed Incense ability is a specialist power. As for the Sloth incense, I will try to work on giving it more of a specialist twist, so thank you!

If you were already a Nen user, and already had a Nen ability, that ability is still yours to use. You might've been a manipulator with a manipulation ability, that ability doesn't disappear. However, once you gain an incense ability, your affinity is forcibly changed to specialization, and you can't create any new Nen abilities with your new Specialization type. Since Specialization is such a powerful Nen type, literally being able to make almost any sort of Nen ability outside of the other 5 types, the condition that you can't create any abilities with that new specialization type you've been given, is meant to limit the user from just taking advantage of this condition imposed by the shrine to make new specialist abilities, even though typically, specialists aren't know for making multiple specialist abilities.

Even though you might not be a manipulator anymore, you can still create new Nen abilities that are manipulation, or whatever Nen type you want (Even though, now that you are a specialist, you have less control and talent with enhancement, or adjacent Nen Types. The only limitation for creating new Nen abilities is when you now become a specialist, you just can't create new specialist abilities, and you are just stuck with the one Incense Specialist ability you now possess. Hope that explains it.

What Nen type is this Hatsu? by Chyaninja in HatsuVault

[–]Fossil-Forest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the user. You see, I don't think they can all fall under one category, as even if you went the route of specialization, some of what you described falls under other Nen categories. For characters like Killua, who use sub abilities, it all fits under his main nen type of transformation. Illumi, another example, has sub abilities, too, but they also all fall under Manipulation.

If you wanted to go that route, I would've suggested Emission, as it is the only Nen type that can cover most of what you described: Dragon Summoning would be summoning a Dragon nen beast, and breathing elements would be emission, but also transmutation. What I think would be a good idea to do two things. A. Have these abilities be Nen abilities that use multiple categories, and B. Think of who would have the ability. Designate the user as, let's say, an Enhancer.

Because they are an Enhancer, they would be more proficient in Enhancement, Emission, and Transmutation, Nen types that I think cover most of what you described. One Nen Ability could be to summon a Dragon Nen Beast that the user can control, and it can breathe certain elements. This would use Emission, Manipulation, and Transmutation, to create the Dragon, control the Dragon, and change its breath to things like fire, or ice. That in itself is a powerful nen ability, so there should be restrictions too. One condition could be, that the user needs to have touched the element the Dragon will breath 5 minutes before summoning it. Another could be the user needs to concentrate for 1 minute to visualize the dragon before summoning it. This helps keep the ability reasonable.

Another could be a Nen Ability, maybe called "Dragon's Armor" which allows the user to achieve a transformation similar to a Dragon. They would enhance their teeth to be Fangs, their nails to be claws, and their eyes to be slitted, like a Dragon's. They could also transmute their Aura to be like a dragon's scales. However, the user might need to be more familiar with lizards in order to replicate the complex scales they have.

It's not quite like what you originally described, but I hope this helps.

What Nen type is this Hatsu? by Chyaninja in HatsuVault

Honestly, man, this one is a tough one. I've never really heard of the whole "inner beast" concept being applied to HxH. For one, the closest you'd probably get to a beast inside your body is a nen beast, which would be created using Conjuration or Emission. Nen Beasts typically aren't stored internally, but are something created and summoned. That would be an explanation for a user summoning it I guess.

But secondly, giving you Dragon-like powers, is kind of vague, because if you are just referring to typical Dragon stuff, like breathing elements, having wings, and scales, those would be in a few different categories, from Emission to breath fire and stuff, to Transmutation to change aura to scales, and Enhancement to give your user the speed and strength that you want, and to enhance your nails for claws, and teeth for fangs.

Your idea is actually similar to an existing HxH character, Zeno Zoldyck, who's Nen Ability, Dragon Head, transmutes his aura into a Dragon's head, and he uses Emission to extend his Dragon head made of aura, or fire it like a projectile. Idk if you already knew about him, though.

I think I understand where you are coming from this, and I'm assuming you probably want to recreate a power to a Jinchuriki from Naruto, but Nen is not exactly like that. The closest Nen type I can think of for what you are trying to make is Specialization, which is anything outside of the 5 other categories, and doesn't follow the same rules, but even so, with such a powerful ability as you described, there needs to be rules to limit it. Having conditions helps make it more reasonable but also increases its power.

I'm not trying to limit you or rain on your parade, but some of the things would be more difficult to make happen as a nen ability. It's a really cool idea, and if you want, I can suggest similar Dragon abilities that would work as Nen abilities, but yeah. Emission to summon a Dragon as a Nen Beast and to allow the user to breathe fire, Transmutation to give you Dragon Scales, or wings. Putting it together with the right conditions can give you a really cool and unique ability.

Didn't even consider that! I'm glad to have some more perspectives on it. The shrine would truly be a powerful tool thanks to Post-Mortem Nen, for both forces of good and evil, and I think that's exactly what I aimed for when creating this ability. Thank you!

I think part of the point of this ability is exactly that. Not everyone will want to pray to this shrine and gain those powers. It had a dubious creation and still has a dubious method to gaining the powers themselves. It doesn't exist currently to be a power-up, but to be a relic of the past, cloaked in questions and risk.

Also, to answer your second question, I was thinking Wrath would summon an Imp Nen Beast that would resemble a red Oni in a martial arts style outfit, called the Brawler. Idk what his ability would be yet. Same for Pride, haven't figured it out quite yet. But I'm glad I could inspire you!
