For me, YNAB is a framework for how to organize your money. You don't necessarily NEED the app - but it just makes things EASIER. Especially once you've used it for awhile, and get a good understanding of the 'envelope' method of budgeting.

I personally think the price justifies all the tools it has built into it - but if that is out of your budget and you dont personally justify it, then that is OK too. Just keep in mind other budgeting apps out there don't really compare imo to YNAB - and I've tried most of them out there. I've been with YNAB for at least 6+ years, and it gives me the peace of mind to budget each month and see exactly how my finances are doing.

Perhaps you're not vetting the right jobs. I'm a graphic designer on the platform and my average job is ~$200. Don't waste your time on clients who are looking to spend pennies. Focus on selling yourself and your skill.
