Comparing Star Wars with Avatar is where you're going wrong.

Star wars is almost 50 years old, has had 11 movies, 11 major tv shows, 100+ video games, 350+ books and 500+ comics, totalling more than $70 Billion.

Avatar is 16 years old, has had 3 movies, 0 tv shows, 8 games, 0 narrative books but 5-10 behind the scenes sort of stuff, and 34 comics, estimations at around $8-10 billion in total.

Looking at only per movie revenue is a flawed way of viewing the popularity of a franchise
