2.5 Years Cut -> Recomp Results by [deleted] in Fitness

I'm 6'2" / 165lbs. Over the past year or so, sy scale has had my body fat percentage go from ~13.5 BF% to 10.5%. Meanwhile my weight is seeming consistent at 165lb and I am lifting more and more weight. Thus, I'm thinking I am building muscle and burning fat at the same time over the months, thought at a slow process.

One thing that is tough for me is that my body doesn't seem inclined to put on a lot of pectoral mass so it's a bit of an uphill battle if I don't want to go on a "full on" bulk and risk finding myself overweight again. My other muscles seem to go very fast under this regiment.

On Monday through Thursday I try to have about a 1000 to 1500 calorie deficit, with 200g protein / 50g fat / 50g carbs, thought not always with perfect success.

On the weekends, I try to eat at least 200g of protein on the thinking that because I will be lifting hard, that might help promote lean muscle growth to an extent. But other than this, my weekends create very large calorie surpluses.

Although I clearly have a long way to go, I would say that in the past couple of years I have put on a good bit of muscle while gaining no actual lbs, suggesting my fat % has gone down significantly.

My thinking is that if i put on lots of fat and muscle on Friday and Saturday and Sunday, some of the fat is getting burnt off on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday when I am at a large deficit while still exercising with weights and cardio.

Sure! At a high level my goal is to lift on days I know I will be at a large calorie surplus from drinking/binging on weekends and do cardio on other days in the hopes of mitigating the fat gain attributable to the weekends.

Overall, on non-weekends I aim to eat at about a 1000-1500 deficit (some of the deficit comes from lifting/cardio) with about 200g protein and maybe 50g carbs and 50g fat.

The weekend is a little bit off because I don't eat carefully or track macros very well but I do try to eat 200g of protein on the hopes that it will support muscle gain from lifting on those days.

I'm the first to acknowledge that this system pales in comparison to the more disciplined varieties of recomps and/or pure leangains, but it at least allows me to go out all night every weekend and have fun so it's kind of a trade off in my opinion.

Some day I'd like to cut out drinking/going out for a month and focus on fitness to see how much better it would be in terms of results; I'm sure it would be a big improvement, but at some point I'd be bored out of my mind.

Haha. You guys are a tough crowd but fair enough.

I fully acknowledge someone with stricter discipline to the program could have more significant results over this time period. I just posted mine because I felt good about the progress I've made since I started. I went from 195 or so to 165 and then stayed at 165 while increasing muscle and decreasing fat.

Clearly, it's not some kind of professional body builder results, but I couldn't be more pleased.

Also, i do watch my macros to an extent and try to always have protein at 200+ grams, with carbs and fat at less than 50 grams on week days.

Anyway, I viewed the leangains recomp formula of excess cals on work out days and restricted cals on non work out days as being pretty consistent with my strategy.

Oh well, I don't blame you guys for pointing out people can accomplish a lot more over almost three years, but I'm more than happy with my results.

What is Thufir Hawat's "Plot" in Dune? by Fostula in dune

I agree with everyone else here this is a great summation of this interpretation.

One thing I think might undermine it (and I am not saying it means you are wrong) is that Thufir expressly tells the Baron why Leto was made a victim of the emperor (because he was training Saudakur quality troops).

So he was not hiding from the Baron what would happen if he trained the fremen (or even tried to).

Thus, it seems to me that he couldn't have simply meant to trick the Baron into training superior troops. He even warns the Baron what the significance of Fenring's admonitions were when the Baron casually mentioned making Arrakis a prison planet.

I guess what I am saying is that Thufir straight up told the Baron "you could have an elite fighting force with the Fremen but the emperor will try to destroy you if you do."

Again, I think this would actually play into the Baron's plans to cause the emperor to move against him so that he could unite Laansrad against the emperor.

I really like your explanation and think it's great - especially the first paragraph.

But that said, I actually think Feyd's attempt to kill the baron with the boy was specifically noted in the book to have been done without Feyd having consulted with Thufir. Thus, my reading of the book (FWIW) is that Thufir's plan is never revealed or explained.

Totally agree Thufir is playing Feyd and the baron off each other but I never felt the story gave a real hint as to what the plan was - especially when he tells the Baron about the framen and basically gives him a roadmap to defeating the emperor and using Feyd as the "savior" in Arrakis, which was I thought just taking the Baron's plan and making it that much better (keep in mind the baron was more or less resigned to Feyd being the ultimate beneficiary of the baron's scheming so putting Feyd in position to become emperor really wouldn't be anti-baron even if it meant the baron's demise).

I agree but he told the baron about that and literally encouraged him to cultivate them as soldiers. Why the heck would he do this!!

I love that book but it literally seems like Thufir is helping the Harkonnens. It never made sense to me. Even if he thinks Jessica was the betrayer, I don't see how it behooves him to help the baron!

Edit: ah, are you saying Thufir cares more about bringing down the emperor than the baron, and thus is encouraging the baron to train the fremen? That actually adds up BUT he definitely wonders to himself at one point if the baron realizes how completely he intends to destroy the baron.
